It probably comes with the territory to be fair. If you've got the free time to review gear, and do expensive things "for money" when you hardly get by with YouTube revenue (because it's poo poo), you've gotta be paid elsewhere (ie. trust fund or mommy and daddy) in order to have the free time to generate the content, do any traveling, and afford all of it including gear, to even get to that point to begin with. Unless you're an already established business or had a massive audience previously, and then built your YouTube work into that... it just doesn't seem to be possible otherwise, at least from the outside. Maybe I'm being cynical, but I expect to see more whiny crying wealthy YouTube babies coming out of the woodwork when poo poo continues crashing down, ie. I have the unfortunate habit of spending way too much time watching other people shoot and not shooting enough myself. So here's a few of my YouTube favourites, in case anyone else has too much time on their hands during the quarantine. Morten Hilmer - Danish wildlife photographer. Even though wildlife photography is not really my thing I love watching his videos. He seems like a very nice guy, he's always optimistic and it's fascinating watching him wild camp in the arctic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOcUIbQxepo Simon Baxter - Landscape photographer specialises in woodland photography. For me personally I find woodland to be very hard, since it's often very chaotic. It helps watching him walk around and talking about his compositions and thought processes. I really enjoy his location guides and tips, I especially appreciate the local tips as to where to put your car if there's no car park nearby or specific hiking directions. Also appreciate the overviews with satellite maps. I mostly watch for his on location vlogs where he walks around national parks for a week and shoots one or two photos a day. He's an Olympus visionary so expect a lot of Olympus gear talk. Again, he does a lot of on location videos which I enjoy watching. Doesn't take himself too seriously but got some very down to earth advice and I quite enjoy his cityscapes. I'm in the mood for vintage lenses and stumbled upon David Saylors, he's essentially what halpens when your dad makes a youtube channel and it's kind of endearing. He comes off as an easy going Georgian fella with a mad whistle who loves photography. A nice change from guys who have weird speech patterns to stretch time (youtube algorthm riders suck) and more than anyghing his gentle encouragement to just go out and shoot is wonderful. He shoots Fuji XT3 and the Nikon Z6, talks about old lenses, his photos aren't groundbreaking but sometimes someone's spirit and positive nature is more than enough to make a good channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAchKtrMcgqXXxQYLVTh2Ow Along that path I tried to watch Mark Holtze, he takes some good shots and loves his b roll, but his speech patterns I find distracting, irritating and a bit creepy at times. He covers some old lenses pretty ok. Then there was the thread aforementioned Ken and what a ride that guy is. It's kind of great he can rattle off so much in one tak,e also funny in a way that his intro and outro is him shuffling from and to the camera. Defintely a fella on the spectrum but it adds to his channel, I'm grateful to have learned what I have about old lenses from him. But man, what a ride

It's contact sheets and dodging and burning all the way. The Naked Photographer - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUcaft-3hNIuB1L1IgARPoQ - a channel about advanced darkroom techniques from a guy who used to work in the industry back in the day. In-depth technical content about things that I haven't seen much elsewhere on Youtube, like print spotting and retouching, densitometry, selenium toning and what have you. I thought I'd bump this thread (was going through my bookmarks) with a few recommendations: Borut Peterlin Slovenian wet plate photographer (also does some other alt process printing), is a working artist. Really informative videos and has a pretty entertaining personality even if his sense of humour is hit or miss. The actual photography content has been a bit thin of late but he's got a good back catalog if you're interested in that sort of thing. T.Hopper shoots mostly film (I think?), she has some great profiles of photographers from the 20th century. Talks a lot more on the art/concept side of images rather than gear. This is probably the easiest of all of these to recommend to a general audience (of people interested in photography). TinHouseStudio a UK based commercial photographer. I find his clickbait video titles/thumbnails really grating but he's very knowledgeable and has a lot of great info that'd be helpful if you were interested in starting out in commercial photography. He also sells workshops/consults, there's an active FB group he also moderates that's filled with... people basically aping his style. grainydays this guy is kind of the the ur-YT photographer (lofi hip hop, analog), but my latent immaturity vibes with the self-loathing and Flamin' Hot Mountain Dew protest he's running for Kodak to bring back Aerochrome. GxAce straddles the line between cool and cringe. He's mainly a Fuji shooter and has some really high production values (I think he used to do commercials? Also has a great "behind the scenes" video somewhere in his channel) and an... interesting way of doing the "talking head" segments. I've been digging Zenography for a while. The host Nigel does mostly reviews of vintage glass for adapting to mirrorless cameras, but he does talk film and modern glass from time to time as well. I've been enjoying a lot of Paulie B's videos lately, he does a series called Walkie Talkie where he walks around with NYC street photographers that he's friendly with. They're fairly entertaining and gives some insight in to other people's thought processes, motivations, and style. Most people he interviews are Leica/film shooters, but there are a few digital/point and shoot photographers as well. Youtube is a meat grinder, everyone gets funneled into clickbaiting or doing paid reviews or their views drop and they disappear. Granted digitalrev was a unique situation but I have seen a lot of my favorite youtube photographers completely stop uploading.

Yeah, I'm almost exclusively watching videos of analog photography even though I rarely, if ever, shoot film. But almost all of the digital focussed content seems to be about buying new gear. (The exceptions are all stuff I found in this thread though.)

I used to watch Ben Horne's stuff but he's just too dry for me. I ain't the world's most exciting conversationalist so he gets props for putting himself out there, but he manages to make one of the most beautiful regions in the US sound boring. I really like his work though. When I got to visit Capitol Reef last fall I was definitely looking at every scene with a "what would ben horne do" mindset.
