it wasn't the kerb, it was the manhole cover where he lost it

e: also people aren't loving up lines, the big crashes have been from bad road surfaces or unsigned/barriered road furniture, it's the organisers dropping the ball not the riders

it's both. the widely covered crashes from recent weeks stemmed from issues you mentioned, but manoeuvres like maciejuk's in rvv 23 still occur multiple times a race

In this case there’s a kerb or something, unmarked and with no barrier, that runs right through the racing line you’d plan to take, before you’re able to see the kerb. He was committed and going too fast to stay in what was suddenly a much narrower road than expected.

In the big Tour of the Basque crash, the road surface right on the corner was ultra crappy with roots under it right on the corner, no warning. One person lost it, then some of the others that crashed were just due to reacting to that. Consequences were so bad just due to the ditch in exactly the wrong place.

Any other cases you’re thinking of?

It's all Mohoric's fault for winning that MSR on the descent a few years back imo

The manhole cover didn't help, but he actually said he didn't see the curb.

lol at this bit from the ASO-run live tracker:

quote:

Frenchmen represented 50% of the top 8 and 50% of the top 18 at La Flèche Wallonne last Wednesday. In particular Kevin Vauquelin (2nd), Benoit Cosnefroy (4th) and Romain Grégoire (7th) did very well at La Flèche and their compatriots such as David Gaudu, Valentin Madouas, Guillaume Martin and Romain Bardet will also try to play a prominent part today’s race.

I also noted the high concentration of Frenchmen in the top spots at Flèche, but "50% of the top 8 and 50% of the top 18" is unparalleled levels of cope

lol @ watching the start of LBL because you think it might be exciting, versus watching the start because you want to see how "scenic" Wallonia is
