Great lineup last night. Viy had a great atmosphere even when the spooky scenes weren't happening and I'm glad to finally have Mystics in Bali off my watch list. Really good Friday the 13th episode too. Meanwhile, Hitchhiker continues to be a show of disappointing narratives.

They aren't a lot worse than other examples from that era, so I imagine looking around the industry it didn't stand out as particularly bad. watching it now there's almost zero zeitgeist shielding its badness, so it stands out even more. Although it would be fun to read reviews from when it first aired.

It just really stands out because all the guest stars are doing a pretty serviceable or better job and the show's structure, while repetitive, would work as an anthology series. But then every sequence of weird and gruesome events caused by the cursed items gets interrupted by these crappy actors investigating in a boring way and being horribly ineffectual. They're not smart, they're not competent in a fight, they're not likeable. The show works in spite of them, and they're the only constant. It's crazy. At least they don't get a ton of screen time. If this was an X-files setup where most of the show is their investigation and 'banter' it would be unwatchable.

My girlfriend has celiac disease so in general we just don't have beer/gluten in our house. But we did get a little gluten-free pizza so it all worked out. Now she can tell people she technically has prize-winning chili.

Regular O'Doul's is foul, one of the most disgusting things I've ever tasted. The Amber version is actually legitimately very tasty. I used to use it regularly to boil brats during grilling season. (Boil the beer, cook the brats in it for 20 - 25 minutes, finish on the grill.) We good.
