Player of Games is good, it's easier since it keeps focus on one character save for the opening and closing chapters. Surface Detail is really good, gives you a better feel for just how God like ships can be. Excession was like reading a bbs board where everyone has the same gimmick. Helps you get cozy with the Outside Context Problem which is a repeating theme for nearly all the books.
