This game upfront has a "Store" similar to the typical microtransaction fare you get in ubisoft games, but its "not open yet". I think its probably some kind of joke that'll make sense later on in the game so I won't worry about it.
Its pretty good, It does a lot to blend the platformy stuff with the object puzzle stuff so they work together properly. I havent got too far into it yet but theres a lot of intrigue already.

Its definately got a Fallout era aesthetic about it. I don't know if it's possible to avoid conflict entirely, but that'd be neat.

Anyone going to be playing the Sentinels of Freedom game when it releases later today?

Superheroes meet X-com seems to be definitely this board's thing.

It took me a bit to remember, but this game looks like a psuedo remake of an old game series "Freedom Force" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_Force_(2002_video_game)

I've seen a few playthroughs of Monster train, and honestly it seems very high quality and offers a lot of avenues for strategy. Not my kind of game mind you, but I always enjoy watching other people play.

I saw a video of a playthrough on youtube and that was about it for me. Unlike games like portal the whole perspective based mechanics just seem like a gimmick to wrap the story around and aren't really used for many puzzles.

I looked it up and the original "Shadows behind the throne" was only available on itch.io. The people in the comments seemed to like it: https://bobbytwohands.itch.io/shadows-behind-the-throne.

So small trip report. The game is very interesting, but it feels like it wasn't playtested enough. I'm at the chapter "gateways" and I've already found numerous points where you can softlock yourself, one puzzle in particular that I "Solved" felt like I was actually just abusing the game's quirks rather than finding the correct solution. Right now even I'm at a particular puzzle, where they is no clear solution, yet several things that will prevent me going any further.

Fun tip: if you are the first person to open a chest, even with your whip, all the coins that spill out will go right to you from any distance away. There are some things I don't understand though, like what exactly causes new whips to spawn, I think it has somthing to do with the relics, but I cannot be sure.

Black Skylands released in early access semi-recently and I think it has a lot of potential. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1143810/Black_Skylands/

I've played three different versions of this game including the demo and a test version and each one has had a completely different intoduction and plot, It's actually changed quite a lot. I would describe it loosely as a cross between grand-theft-auto (the original) combined with Mercenary kings but actually good. That's a bit underselling it though. Current reviews are mostly positive so that's a good sign. I'm not at liberty to say how much of the game is complete or if the entire plot and structure is there yet as I haven't got too far passed the introduction and there is a lot of stuff left to do.

Waves of Steel

This game sounds like Hilarious nonsense: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1482750/Waves_of_Steel/

I can describe it loosely as a game where you can modify a battleship to an absurd degree to take on increasingly powerful and nonsensical opposition. Just look at the trailer, I don't know if words can really do it justice. It seems to have a plot judging from the synopsis and screenshots.

If anyone is actually playing this, especially with a controller, I'm interested to hear about it. I know it's developed by a goon active here and I want to buy it but I also just want to hear more about the gameplay and see if it works/works well with controller.
Almost all of the screenshots show Xbox controller button prompts, so I'm assuming that's the developer's preferred method of play. In fact, I'm wondering about the opposite, does it play well with mouse and keyboard?

Tombot
Oct 21, 2008
I played a couple of Trials games in the past, but I eventually reached a point where I could no longer progress, ultimately because I lacked the fine control needed with just keyboard buttons. I currently have them listed in a custom folder on steam called "needs a controller".

The Demo was pretty sweet, but I think the upgrade system is a bit weird, perhaps they didn't want to spend too long trying to balance each plane and instead allow the player to fix any problems with it.

Tombot

And it's VR! Which from what I heard used SteamVR, which just highlights how pointless it was being an Epic exclusive. Anyway I think this game will be an amazing visual experience, but I'm personally not so hot on tetris.

Timberborn is also a bit like Terra nil, because it involves using water to rejuvinate a wasteland with lots of planning ahead required. Appropriately it also encourages you to make Dams and Reservoirs for when the dry seasons come, a very thoughtful game it would seem.

Tombot

I remember playing the demo for that, what I remember most was how underwhelming the voice-acting was, the gameplay wasn't amazing either but I couldn't remember that much about it. I can only hope they improved since then.

I'll probably make a Supraland thread when I'm done gawking over it in the next few days.

I'm just reporting that I solved an endgame puzzle backwards. It gave me the option, I didn't find the right entrance point to solving it, and ended up traversing almost the entire map through specific points to arrive at a certain door with a very specific flag to open it. I got it open, and realized that I am stuck at the bottom of an enemy gauntlet that I cannot kill because I didn't drop in from the top of the gauntlet. I feel infinitely clever, and simultaneously like a dumbass. I feel like that's the Supraland motto in a nutshell.

I know this is not the most appropriate thread to put a spoiler, but I think need to reply to this.

If this is the room with the giant beating heart, you did not go in the wrong way, you need to use the enemies themselves to get to the top. Note that some are made of wood or metal.

I've seen this kind of thing before, It's very much "Putting the cart before the horse". Sure the players have the option to buy the game then buy the microtransactions then buy the season pass, but they also have the option skip the whole thing entirely and lose nothing in the process. Same thing happened with Artifact pretty much.

Core Keeper is out in early access, so that's one to keep an eye on. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1621690/Core_Keeper/

Apparently it releases today, but no news post just yet. I can vouch for it's quality though, even if the pixel graphics are a bit chunky, it perfectly blends first person shooter and rogue-something-or-another and it's only got better over time.

I haven't had chance to play it yet, but Neon Blight has just released on steam and it looks pretty swoosh! I don't know if it's an early access sorta deal as the page does not seem to say as much. It's a roguelite shop keeping game where you sell all of the unused weapons you find to pundits in your shop and likely more aside. The eventual goal is to aquire the ultimate weapon, which sounds interesting to say the least.

Incidentally, another Platformer released today, a rather rambunctious alternative to your Hat in times and your Kao the Kangaroos: Hell Pie

I tried the demo back during a nextfest on Steam and it's definately my jam, the controls feel right and it's definately got the anarchic tone that I enjoy.

Hell Pie is an obscene 3D platformer that takes bad taste to the next level! Hell Pie sees you grab the horns of Nate, the ‘Demon of Bad Taste’. He is given the honorable task of gathering the disgusting ingredients for Satan’s infamous birthday pie!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1141580/Taiji/

I would describe it to be a sorta isometric exploration and puzzle focused game similar to The Witness. As it is extremely new, I can't say much about the quality of the game and the only two reviews it has at this exact moment are from playtesters, but they are both positive for what it is worth.

Certainly one of the better FPSs out there. It carries the tradition of games like quake by having highly geometric level geography and a fully functioning map editor to boot.
I may edit this post later to give more impressions of what has changed since the earlier versions, but as it stands it seems as if they updated the main campaign to the point where my old saves no longer work, and they really changed the introduction of this one from what I remember.

65% positive out of 23. Apparently this was some kind of NFT poo poo, which has caused it be review bombed (rightfully so imho). There are also complaints of bugs and performance issues.

According to one of the reviews, in order to play this you need a "Gala" account, and when you get one they spam you with NFT emails. Also allegedly, a lot of the more powerful classes are locked behind absurdly expensive NFT fuckery. I would seriously reccomend that nobody touches this one.
