Def Disco Elysium. It caught my attention back when it was named No Truce with the Furries Furies.

I saw Chernobylite on the list and got excited, but it's just early access?

I'll be waiting for The Outer Worlds to be released on GoG/Steam.

I know but I still dig it a lot and apparently it will be fully playable at release, their early access plan is more about expanding on the gameworld (still probably better to wait for the full release). It looks like RE7 set in lovingly recreated open-world Chernobyl (they're actually 3D scanning existing locations) and that sounds interesting as hell.

I think they're also recording ambient sound in there.

So my Idle/Incremental/Clicker game NGU IDLE launched at the start of this month:

If you've ever played a game like Cookie Clicker or Clicker Heroes or Adventure Capitalist, it's one of those but better because a goon made it. It's a mix of a Resource Management and RPG game where you can close it overnight or go to work, and come back and you've gained all sorts of stats and things and makes you feel like you accomplished something in your life. It's chock-full of crude jokes and puns and recently some cool art another goon (Musluk) made.

This .gif sums up the tone of NGU IDLE:

And now my shill has ended.

WORLD OF HORROR features branching stories with five playable characters to brave the chaos, each with their own story and a different perspective on the events that unfold. Unravel puzzles and mysteries through spells that sacrifice sanity. Uncover disturbing and shocking clues. Diligently search every nook and cranny, scouring for helpful items that may come in handy in another twisted encounter.

Experience the quiet horror of this love letter to the works of Junji Ito and H.P. Lovecraft. WORLD OF HORROR is free of typical jump scares, relying solely on its unnerving environments and amorphous terrors to create a gnawing sense of dread. Complimented by haunting chiptunes and a 1-bit art style with a variety of available palettes, WORLD OF HORROR presents a series of frightening and unsettling accounts that linger well after stepping away.

This reminds me of an old (maybe PC shareware) game where you walk around in Edo(?) period Japan and try not to get eaten by demons. It was creepy and weird.
Similar UI, but in color.

The only recent-ish games that are really similar to Fallout are:

ATOM RPG - What if Fallout but in USSR.
whoops apparently this released Dec 2018. But they're still updating it, and recently they updated the engine to Unity 2019.2.

Encased - Kickstared game, now in Early-Access.

Neither are sprite looking, but the first one is almost clone-like.

Dreamscaper is a ARPG/Rougelite game that released a demo a couple days ago. Its got a lot in common with Hades gameplay wise. I'm really enjoying the setting and style of the game, its unlike anything I've played before. It's going into early access this summer so don't expect it to be as complete/feature rich as Hades but what is released so far is very promising. The story is basically you literally fighting your depression/demons in your lucid dreams and one of the bosses of the levels is named Isolation.

The prologue (demo) is apparently ~5 hours long. Will definitely check it out.

I'm not a fan of early-access, but I'll be keeping my eye on this one.

ITTA got released a couple of hours ago, and it looks pretty neat.

It's an indie action/adventure/bullet-hell with an art style (very) similar to Hyper Light Drifter.

Test your limits in ITTA, a bullet-hell, boss-rush style adventure. Armed with her father’s revolver and guided by a strange ghostly cat, a displaced girl must battle her way through impossible trials in search of answers… and peace.

It's available on PC and Switch, and maybe some other platforms.

CARRION is a reverse horror game in which you assume the role of an amorphous creature of unknown origin. Stalk and consume those that imprisoned you to spread fear and panic throughout the facility. Grow and evolve as you tear down this prison and acquire more and more devastating abilities on the path to retribution.

I wanted to check The Medium out when I saw it was available for pre-order, but from what I'm hearing/reading it seems... boring? And the split screen seems uneccesary/annoying.

Crowetron posted:

Medium looks cool, but does it do that incredibly tedious horror game thing where an invincible monster that kills you instantly rolls up and you have to spend a bunch of time hiding behind boxes and waiting?

I don't think it's that kind of horror game. Apparently it is?

Observer wasn't much of a horror game.

I very much like point and click adventures and it's pretty nice getting the feel and atmosphere of Silent Hill without being forced to hit mannequins with a shovel or unpack metaphorical traumas or whatever you do in those games. I'm enjoying the Medium a lot more than I thought I would.

i've already played layers of fear, observer, and blair witch so i am not dipping my interactive toes into this one and instead watching from the beach

treat posted:

Not really. It's more of a "pick up this nicely detailed object and spin it around looking at it before you use it on that thing over there" thing so far. I'm still pretty early and there hasn't been a very challenging setpiece or puzzle yet, but it seems more like a laid back exploration type of game. The exploration is really good though, the game looks great, it gives you opportunities to explore off the main path, and it works really well with the split screen giving you twice as much to look at and compare. My biggest complaint is how generic a lot of the spirit world looks unless it's a scene directly aping a Beksinski painting. It's just a lot of skin/bones/flowering fungus looking stuff but when you do run into a Beksinski piece it's pretty impactful.

Thanks for the write-up. Sounds like an "on sale" kind of game, I guess.

Distributor dispute and delisting

BigBen Interactive was licensed to distribute the game until April 20, 2020. The contract was terminated by Frogwares, on account of both intellectual property violation and lack of payment.[21] This resulted in The Sinking City being delisted from Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 digital storefronts on August 25, 2020 pending the resolution of Frogwares' legal dispute with BigBen. The Nintendo Switch version of the game remained available on the Nintendo eShop, as that version had been self-published by Frogwares.[22]

BigBen Interactive now call themselves Nacon (the publisher listed on Steam).
