The problem is the rights could be all over the place.

For 4, it was published by Sega in USA and 505 games in EU

For 4 Answer, it was published by ubisoft in USA and EU.

From Software published them both in Japan so it really has to depend on how the rights are set up.

From Software is not a studio that's super interested in doing remasters. The Dark Souls remaster was essentially commissioned by Bandai Namco and another studio did most of the work. I suspect they only did a ps4 version of Dark Souls 2 because the original game came out on ps3 when the ps4 was new and it had all that dlc content. And maybe it might have helped do some training for Bloodborne.

If I was Bandai Namco though, I'd commission quick remasters of 4/4A and V/Verdict Day to sell some more armored core's while waiting for a new one (the word seems to be that we should be expecting dlc for 6 though)

I think they retain the rights, the 3rd gen games in PAL-land had a complete mess of publishers (3 was Metro3D, Silent Line was Agetec/Digital Jesters, Last Raven was 505) and From did publishing for the PSP ports themselves for US/EU AFAIK

I imagine if any one publisher had the rights to 4/A then they'd have shared a western publisher at least, but who knows for sure lol

I hadn't considered the publishing situation, not that I think a port is likely at all. On a similar note though, why isn't Bandai pumping out HG kits for AC at this point? They would print money.

I put together the Ambient earlier in the year and honestly, it's pretty good. A bit fragile and some parts were very fiddly, but it was still fun.

I still struggle to make anything but lightweights, every time I get heavier it just doesn't feel responsive, and I am of the opinion that everything regarding the stagger system is bad, nothing like dodging a malenia's entire blade dance, landing behind her and blasting away at point blank range and getting nothing but ricochets because the bucket isn't full, unlike that couple of high deflection shots earlier, I'm still annoyed at the low awareness, feels like I'm looking out of a mailslot, not an orphan stomper plugged in my head, zero out of ten, very bad game, still got a number of missions left to S rank including the tutorial.

I'm ultimately having a good time and in the end I enjoy a nice weird ending, the slow clunky nature of anything even medium weight gets to me a bit but I'll live, it's not exactly what I wanted, but if I let it stand on its own two legs, it stands. Music wise I'm a bit miffed by the relatively low proportion of bangers this time and characters wise I think Ayre is a bit too waifuism bait.

Ultimately it's like ER for which I have a laundry list of issues but ultimately like it, for ER those were longstanding issues (dogshit inventory janitoring, lousy camera and so on, the usual) while here there's some new ones (although lack of radar was already a thing in fifth gen, I forgot that), but I appreciate the hard lock for what it is, an admission that controllers are ultimately an inferior control method. (Or potentially a gameplay representation of deliberately opting to tunnel vision on an enemy for a moment, which is also neat.)

Got slightly less missions left to S rank now.

One thing that bothers me on actually putting down the game is that neither the fifth gen nor this one let me destroy buildings to create new paths and so on, all that beautiful terrain with greebles to get caught on and no new gameplay functions makes me a bit sad.

Hard disagree: I will say, controllers are only inferior in selection tasks. In tasks of fine precise inputs, there are lots of things a controller can do that a mouse and keyboard is just the absolute worst for, especially if you're interacting with a vehicle that has reasonably complex physics. I would even argue the reduction of complex physics and gamefeel is partially to blame for customers wanting everything to be mouse and keyboard, which is why Warthunder used a PID to solve for that weakness in a really mushy way that's still inferior to a controller.

In a game like AC, turning a camera to face an opponent is basically manual work since it doesn't do a huge amount to actually change the feel of how your AC moves given how AC doesn't like, really have physics -- it has an animation state machine, and an interpolation rate for climbing and landing vertically and QB is the same thing sideways. Its all very fixed, very boolean, very pre-calculated curves. imo it feels sterile.

With you on the bait thing. With you on the soundtrack, the iffy movement. Lightweights and long range (my favourite things to run) get absolutely poo poo on in 6, so I'm waiting for yet another balance patch. The last one helps, but ehhh its not great. Turns out the radars don't track after 450, let alone lock. That's miserable.

SIGSEGV

It probably has to do with the fact that I use a controller that's fairly beat up by now but I always feel better with kbm.

Well, when it's asking me to do actual precision work, the hardlock solves that handily for this game for me.

Today I'm... amped up!

If you consider the game a zero out of ten, why the hell are you trying to S-rank every single mission? You do not need to platinum it in order to experience all of the content that the game has to offer, and no one's forcing you to play a game you apparently don't enjoy other than yourself.

I get trying to beat the game at least once to give it a fair shake before assessing it as a zero out of ten, but platinuming a game you say is a zero out of ten suggests that you don't actually consider the game a zero out of ten and you should at least try to be honest with others before claiming it's a zero out of ten.

It's totally fair to gripe about the game, its inconsistencies, things you wish were better, etc. - nothing's ever perfect. It's also very fair to say something like "Compared to modern Triple AAA titles, this is a 9/10 game - compared to other AC games, it's a solid 5/10". But rating scales lose a ton of their meaning if things you like are a 10/10 and things you don't like are a 0/10.

Edit: Grr I am an annoying pedant and am willing to admit this about myself because lol, interpreting tone on the internet.

Maybe the persistant online-ness of how their Souls games work makes it cross the budget/will this actually selll line.

I know From didn't fully develop it but I wish they's rerelease 3D Dot Heroes because holy poo poo that game is almost amazing. Just for the dungeons theu decided to have reflective floors so you often dip into single FPS while on the single screen Zelda dungeons.

In the From Cave in that game even From itself makes fun of Chromehounds lol

I'd kill for proper Otogi remasters. You can feel the subtle germination of some stuff in Souls/AC6/Sekiro/etc. with the weapon weights and weaknesses/impact stuff. Those games own.

But a lot of their classic stuff in general, like I think slow paced but mega atmospheric first person dark fantasy games would do better now than when they were originally coming out.

IIRC we got Echo Night 1 port on the PS3 in the US but thank god there's fan translation of Echo Night 2 now because that game rules and more people should play it.

Yeah it's weird that we got three ps1 classics by from software on the ps3 (armored core, echo night and shadow tower)

Heck we even have one ps2 one (eternal ring) on ps4.

Rumor is Sony has been working on a new ps2 emulator for ps5 (the current one is built for ps4 and has graphical issues running on ps5)

Make no mistake, I'd love to see more older fromsoft games as classics or remasters or even remakes.

But fromsoft the developer don't seem too interested in revisiting their older games. It's gonna have to get commissioned by someone else.

The issue here is, again, that From had a ton of different publishers over the years, so the rights to Armored Core's localizations are tied up in knots. V and Verdict Day are both Bandai, so that's easy enough if you want the worst generation, and Sony could publish AC1 since they'd published it back in '97, but all the games between? That gets messy.

Im suprised they even called it AC6 because AC and From have a pretty rough history and without Miyazaki and Dark Souls, the series would probably be dead permanently.

Armored Core was a much bigger deal for From than Tenchu, which they mostly just published. It was their flagship pre-souls, and mostly sold pretty well by their standards at the time. No reason to treat it like it's cursed.

Interesting take. My own is K-particles were a gauge bosons which were exploring the effects of "what something with Gundam's Minovsky particle effects would actually do"

As it turns out, as I understand it at least (and my knowledge is not amazing I will preface with that), the same effect which produces M-scattering and lattice effect (it looks describable with something like ( c + r / | p − c | ( p − c )) to produce something like a sphere that wants to return to a centroid, and has to be pushed into an orbital path to produce a sphere, which is how we get stuff like PA, where wave compressions distribute mechanical forces.

I *think* the same Pauli Exclusion Violations they're using to produce room temperature ambient pressure metallic hydrogen for driving NEXTs is actually the primary offender, because with heavier atoms you end up with all kinds of super undesirable things and what seems like induced spontaneous fission, which is what I'm reading the ash as. This is how I also think some of the aerodynamic relief of PA also comes.

I did once do a writeup of the effects of kojima contamination on humans as a creative writing exercise, but its basically just "hey uhhh radiation is extremely bad" rather than having any specialist knowledge.

I will say, I am an idiot who has just enough knowledge to be dangerous, so a lot of what I'm saying could be complete jibberish and I wouldn't even know, since I'm just a dork who likes giant robots and I am probably talking out of my rear end here. My knowledge goes as far as an incomplete foggy memory of "Particle physics, Brick by brick" by Dr Ben Still which I originally got to study his applied pedagogic method. The idea of someone explaining something using a metaphor like that is just very exciting for me, as I'm deeply interested in how humans learn about things -- despite not being super good at it myself. idk.
