Just spent 4 days watching what's been recorded so far. Some assorted thoughts:

- Iris's route was an engrossing introduction to the game, not only because of the sheer comedic spectacle of the action sequences and her Somnium, but also because of the ever-building dread it stirred within me as Date fell further into Iris's delusion. I still want to know what exactly is going on with Iris's whole family situation.

- Mizuki's one of my most favorite characters in this game and I think her voice actor turned in one of the best performances in this dub. Her route had some really troubling moments, but they did their part in making the conclusion that much more emotionally effecting. I'm also fascinated by the implication that Date has a complex over not being a "proper" parent to Mizuki; I think it adds a really interesting dimension to his character.

- I said Mizuki's route really tugged on the heartstrings, but the Ota route hit a lot of raw nerves for me and it's currently my favorite just because it got me where it hurts. Ota describing his life as a failson and Mayumi's Somnium were particularly hard for me to watch, and I was even close to crying during the latter. I'm not even that disappointed that it ended mid-investigation: the character development was just that good.

- I had my suspicions about Pewter when it turned out there were negative Timies, which was weird for something intended to help the investigation, but so far, Pewter's only acted as an antagonist in defense of his lover. Perhaps this was simply an unfortunate glitch, then.

- It took me until the end of Mizuki's route to figure out that the name Date is probably a reference to Masamune Date.

- I'm still waiting for the moment where Date activates Aiba's self-destruct function and uses her as a grenade.

I was initially wondering if the Japanese government pulled some MKUltra poo poo six years ago from how cagey the agents were being about the original CK, but I wasn't expecting to get an explanation the very next episode. Shame the killer got Iris and Ota before things got desperate enough for Pewter to come clean about Michael Myers and Yoshikage Kira.

One thing doesn't add up, though: that one flashback showed #89 as Hitomi's lover and Iris's stepfather, who, by all accounts, was very much a man who didn't need to kill to feel joy. Just when you think you've got an answer, more questions pop up.

Nothing lifts the spirits like talking with two grieving mothers and a traumatized child before listening to a convicted assassin talk about his slide into vigilantism and hired killing. If it weren't for the psychological profile Pewter gave, I'd assume Falco just murdered those women at Rohan's request, but I still want to know why there's such a marked contrast between the two stories.

Just when you think you've got a clearer picture of everything, something blocks your view of the window again. I assume Rohan barged in because he's a sadistic rear end in a top hat, but Boss is obviously the much stranger piece of the puzzle here. I feel like this has to do with those state secrets she's keeping so close to her chest.

It's easy to think she might be cleaning up loose ends somehow, but I sincerely doubt the game is going to run out of twists anytime soon.

The people of Tokyo could have energy for centuries to come if only they could hook up Date's libido to their power supply.

Well, things just got a whole lot trickier. This might explain why Date can't recall a thing past six years ago: maybe some of the egg white didn't make it inside his new head.

I wonder if Hitomi and Falco bonded over being done horrifically dirty by the Kumakuras.

What kind of animal would Animal Crossing Aiba be? My guess is a bear, because her eyeball form looks like a tardigrade.

Knowing what we know now about psyncing, I can't help but wonder if someone pulled a quick switch on Boss and took that video. Does the timeframe even allow for that?

Oh, Date, no. We're in for some serious poo poo the next time this route continues.

I was absolutely certain the worst ending would end with Saito entirely victorious, but at least he didn't find a way to shut down Iris.

Yeah, my brain shorted out on Aiba's name and I just went with Iris because eye motifs. I should have thought a little harder and realized a lot of this game is eye motifs.

Well, at least Date/Falco can carry around Aiba in his empty socket if he's getting his old body back.

Interesting that the harsh, ugly-looking filters used in Saito's Psync were reused here. I wonder if Date's Psync targets saw everything in black and white.

Ah. Figures they wouldn't let Aiba blow up unless it came at a tremendous cost. Hopefully there's a copy of her that managed to survive? :(

The body switching was definitely meant to be disorienting, but I have some serious difficulty picturing Sad Dad Falco going sicko mode over porn.

Delightful. This is the first time I've ever seen an Uchikoshi work in full, and I must say, it's just as much of a wild ride as I heard it was. Thanks for the LP, and good luck with future projects!
