Combined with the heavy suspicion that she killed Renju, she really wasn't looking trustworthy. Also she blackmails Date in the prologue so that didn't look like something that was too dark for her to do.

Mizuki. I didn't go right side first back in Mizuki's Somnium, so at first it seemed like a normal family Mizuki was in. Then I finally got to this route and this segment was a bit of a shock. Course this meant for me that the right side's reveal was less of a shock, though no less unpleasant.

Ah finally, a happy ending.

NeverHelm posted:+1 to the "What the heck is going on?" counter. This was my first route, and once I got to this point I thought I had a pretty good idea what was going on. Yeah, this was the very first route I took as well, so Iris just seemed super shady, and this was all just a pure "what the gently caress?" I was amused at the thread arriving at the line of logic "brain tumors caused her to go nuts" theory once the left branch was taken, as you obviously don't get that info here on this branch first. So she just looked like a possible killer or witness here to me. Seeing the alternate version of her Somnium next, as Ota route was the next path I took, just reinforced those thoughts. When I finally got around to the Iris route, I just didn't trust her one bit by that point, and had an entirely different line of logic from the thread's. quote:If the truth got out, it would be a huge scandal for the police. People at the upper level were terrified of what might happen. I don't think they had much to worry about at all considering how much they can get away with. 1234567890num posted:Well this branch may be very bleak with plenty of deaths, but at least Pewter is a total bro and doesn't betray us this time! I thought something was up with him at first, but having went down this route first, then Ota's and Mizuki's routes, I lost suspicion of him, then got surprised by his betrayal in Iris' route. Course the reasoning behind that explained why he didn't bother doing that in the left branch.

NeverHelm posted:So... I keep bringing this up, but this was the first "ending" I saw. Naturally, I was really suspicious of Boss going forward. Same. I find it funny how the thread was super distrustful of Pewter on the left side, because that was my reaction to Boss. Her obstructing you from dealing with So in Mizuki route had a far more sinister undertone to me than most of the thread I bet. And for that matter it was easier to buy into the fact that Boss had it out for you on the right side routes. (Which helped cause Pewter's betrayal take me by surprise more.) And then So turned out to be the killer in Mizuki route, leaving me very confused, especially when Boss didn't try anything in that route.

Boss may not have been the villain, but she's still a horrible person.

AweStriker posted:I’m not sure how you’re getting this read, exactly. She did some terrible things, yes, but with... this resolved she has a chance to do better. Well, she resorted to extremely unethical and illegal methods in an attempt to bail out a known assassin. (And everyone involved was a clusterfuck of incompetence at that.) Tau Wedel posted:It's a weakness of Uchikoshi's writing in general, I think: sometimes characters act oddly because the plot needs them to, and the characterisation work can't quite smooth out the oddities. It was real blatant with Zero Time Dilemma too. Lot of contrivances in that game to make the plot work.

Bloody Emissary posted:Boss and Date have been doing blatantly unethical and illegal maverick cop poo poo (with very few actual results) since minute one of the game but nepotism came as a surprise to you? They've made up excuses to detain people so they can peek inside their heads without their consent, hacked into their electronics, tried to coerce them into confessions, trespassed, impersonated someone over the phone...the list goes on, but my point is that it's a little late to be having the ACAB realization, don't you think? I just made a quip about a specific character's actions after 1 part of the reveals, and just elaborated on said quip when someone else asked about it. I've played the game and watched the LP, of course I'm well aware of all the poo poo that happened. (Besides if you're gonna prod someone about the ACAB thing, there was a different poster who already made that joke.)

Mecca-Benghazi posted:Did I miss it or was it not explained why Saito decided he wanted to swap bodies with Falco/Rohan? Or is the inference just that as Rohan he gets to kill lots of people? Because doesn’t he know about the pituitary gland issue by now? Basically after Date spilled the beans, Saito went "holy poo poo a body swapping machine, that sounds awesome." Then the procedure went wrong, and Saito blamed Date for stealing his body when he got his memories back, when it was his own fault that he got into that mess in the first place.

SITB posted:Honestly, thus far I don't really like the epilogue, primarily because I don't really care for Iris, and it feels that she steals Mizuki's screen time and relevancy to bolster her own. Mizuki unfortunately gets shafted hard outside of her own route. And in the true route, Date doesn't cure her aphonia, and he ends up neglecting her pretty hard which is really jarring compared to what happens in the Mizuki route. Also agreed on Iris. She's someone from Date's previous life, but his current life is basically being Mizuki's caretaker, not being with Hitomi and Iris (He discarded his previous identity at that too). And he doesn't really spend that much time with her over the course of the game (and the interactions he had with her before the timeline splits aren't exactly positive ones), and she ends up dying in every single route that's not the true ending due to being murdered when the timeline splits on the entire left side of the flowchart. In her route, you're basically just feeding her delusions. Araxxor fucked around with this message at 12:52 on Sep 8, 2020 |

Thanks for the LP!NeverHelm posted:Date's memory powers are so strong, he can even remember stuff that happened while he was unconscious in a different timeline. The flowchart stuff is rather in the background and not really a huge part of the story. It's basically a "it happened, don't worry about it" sort of deal. Granted it does make continuing the Annihilation and Resolution routes rather contrived, which doesn't really have much of a reason to be locked away to Date himself otherwise. Incidentally there's one more thing Date can remember from the parallel worlds that TheMcD missed. You can find Boss' porn stash under the rug while searching her office in the Annihilation route. If you search the rug again at the end of the Resolution route, Date will somehow remember that detail of all things. If you did not, the flavor text is generic like in TheMcD's video of that room. Mecca-Benghazi posted:Thanks for the LP! It did. Every post in this thread that followed that line of thinking gave me and some others some good chuckles. The thread thinking that the right side of the flowchart was the bad ending side also gave me laughs. As well as being intensely distrustful of Pewter on the left side of the flowchart despite him having absolutely no reason to betray you in those timelines.
