Ted Lasso 2.2: Wow. I really feel bad for Sam. I hope he doesn’t feel betrayed by Ted. But of course Jamie would need to be back on the team this season. I’m interested what Roy will do too… will he get another shot on the team too or is he really going to stay in his own plotline? Also this episode had some sexual content huh? I’m surpised because I thought Apple was trying to keep their shows more family friendly. But… Keeley’s porn of choice being Roy crying was pretty great.

Quincy Smallvoice posted:Amazing episode, and yes - Roy is done playing. At that age, you don't come back from an injury like that in the Premier League. Keeley made Jamie go down on her in an s01 ep, the gala one I think? This aint a family show! True about Roy but this is also TV. But if not to play I wonder if he will come back to Richmond as a coach? Yes I did just rewatch that episode last night. Still I think this week is much more than anything last season. The masturbating just kept going.

Chairman Capone posted:The AV Club review said this felt like something Michael Scott would do, and I think that's spot on. Yeah. I feel like Led really didn’t add anything either except show that Ted is getting more and more desperate to be the team’s one and only savor when they’ve clearly grown beyond needing him to fix everything. This is a continuation of his insecurity plot, not the Jamie/Sam plot. And the team did need Led to be their enemy... Jamie solved that himself. For Sam I feel like they did miss his feelings about Ted / Jamie at the end of Ep2. But now I don’t think that the thread is there for them to pick up later. Jamie clearly took a big step to healing their rift this episode and I would be disappointed if his character went backwards in future episodes so they could do more of the same conflict plots.

"What could you be upset about? Did one of the Paw Patrol die?" Roy is the best. Overall I really liked the episode even if it would have been better in December. Zero One fucked around with this message at 01:35 on Aug 16, 2021 |

I rewatched S1 ahead of this season and I don't think there were many high stakes. Sure it seemed like Rebecca was out to ruin everything but it got resolved with no drama. The only real villian of S1 was Rupert and he was defeated by a game of darts. The personal stuff between the staff/players was much bigger part of the show and I think we are still getting the same level. Now I have my only comment about this week: Roy continues to be the best.

I don't think that this stretch of "nothing matters, be happy" will last. I think the show is setting the audience up to be in as much denial as the characters. All these happy episodes make us complacent until the other shoe drops. Ted's speech about the team being in a fairy tale and that everything will work out for them was a little on the nose.

https://twitter.com/vanityfair/status/1429872443267723270?s=21quote:Ted Lasso’s cocreator went on to suggest that the backlash was premature, teasing the second season’s latter arc. “I feel like we’ve set up a lot. Maybe you’ll dig where it goes. Maybe not,” Lawrence wrote. “And look, I watch tv the same way. This just stung more than usual. Not sure why, yet. I’m usually Teflon. Still, no biggie. I just now feel you’re obligated to watch and report back either way. TV!!” quote:Others have aligned themselves with Brett Goldstein’s grisly former footballer Roy Kent in season two, rather than Jason Sudeikis’s bright-eyed Coach Lasso. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Goldstein ventured that the show’s second season is actually edgier than the first. “I love the love that you see for Ted Lasso, but there’s also, I think, a kind of simplification of the show,” he explained. “Particularly from people who haven’t seen it and are only aware of the hype and probably get annoyed with it. Like, ‘Oh, it’s just a lovely show where everyone’s lovely to each other!’ Know what I mean? That’s what it sounds like it is. But it’s also incredibly dark and difficult. I am always surprised when people say it made them feel warm and fuzzy inside.”

Much like how in S1 his marriage was just a thing in the background until one episode it caused him to have a breakdown I think we will get the same with his relationship with Dr. Fieldstone. It’s quite obvious that she is causing him a lot of stress and while he doesn’t hate her something is likely going to break for him again. And I think that breakdown will address that he can’t be positive all the time… especially if it is him bottling his true feelings up inside.

Another great episode of Ted Lasso but I really cannot stand the Sam and Rebecca relationship. Edit: Oh my God the description of next week's episode: After the semifinal, Beard sets out on an all-night odyssey through London in order to collect his thoughts. I can't wait. Uggg. gently caress Nate. The story isn’t even that great. He just wanted to be a bully. Great episode though. I’m glad Keeley told Roy but wow was that awkward. I was worried Roy was going to do something stupid with the teacher but he continues to be an honest person.

Ted Lasso is like 30 Rock. The show/sport that are the character's jobs is not as important as what the characters do with the rest of their time.

Great season finale with lots of great moments. Roy and Jamie. Roy and the Diamond Dogs. Masculine Melancholy Renaissance painting Danny with the penalty, seeing the new puppy, “Football is life”. Sam’s decision and then explaining it to “Ted” gently caress NATE swickles posted:Can we please change the thtead title to "gently caress you Piers Morgan" Agreed. Roy continues to be very bad at understanding other people and their emotions. His first reaction to Keeley turning down his surprise 6 week trip as she is trying to start a new business was to ask if they were breaking up. His reaction to not being in the Vanity Fair photos was also pretty immature. He still has a lot of growing to do although he has taken some small steps this season.

Vintersorg posted:What?? When talking to Keeley he hid his true feelings about not being included which is something he has been doing all series. Hiding how he really feels. When talking with the coaches he did finally let his emotions out… to people he felt safe with and not who he really needed to talk to about it (Keeley). I felt that what he was saying was that he felt that Keeley didn’t need him. That she was moving beyond him and had abandoned him. Later at the end of the episode their interaction reenforces this… he is clearly upset that she doesn’t want to vacation with him and tells him to go away for 6 weeks and leave her alone (which wasn’t what she intended but what he felt she said). If he had slightly more emotional maturity he would have been better able to handle both those situations without thinking that Keeley was breaking up with him because she didn’t need him anymore. He still isn’t willing to talk to Keeley and tell her the truth… that she hurt him. Anyway, I still love Roy and just hope they intended this self improvement journey for him and it isn’t just some cheap relationship stuff for next season. VagueRant posted:Actually curious about the abandonment angle for character psychology. Yeah I agree with most of this. Nate wanted Ted to be his new dad and felt Ted didn't care about him in the end. But Ted literally put Nate's picture at his home next to his real son. Nate just didn't realize it. It's tragic.

Robobot posted:Yeah, but that was usually used as an aside to get her in the scene for something else or for someone else's character (like the coffee maker with Nate or Bantr with Rebecca/Sam). I guess my real complaint is I just wanted more Keeleycentric stuff that wasn't tied to Roy or Rebecca. I think one of the "problems" people had with this season is that everyone wants more. But they want more of everything. More Keeley story More Nate story More Ted's mental health story More soccer story More sponser problems story More Dani More Jamie More Colin* And I agree. I would love if the show could build on everything. But they don't have enough time so they could only have small glimpses of some stories here and there. And that is bound to disappoint people who wanted a lot more of something this season and didn't get it. *Literally what the AV Club reviewer has been writing about wanting more of all season.
