The personal attacks on Plinkey are wrong, and didn't help the situation. That said, there are very simple steps that could greatly improve the oversight/accountability around the funds money. I was really pleased to hear you are implementing a monthly public spreadsheet - tbh, that solves about 99% of issues that have been raised. You can't raise tens of thousands of dollars and not expect questions to be asked. That comes with the territory unfortunately.

Good Soldier Svejk posted:If you look at the most recent post in the other thread, it's starting to seem like if plinkey wanted to run this like the UK fund (e.g., above the board) he'd need at least 1 full time certified accountant to keep it straight. The flipside of that means that the fund - as it stands - may be operating illegally and exposing Plinkey to a huge personal tax liability. In previous posts, he has claimed he has been paying this on his personal taxes? It would be good to confirm if that's the case. Even if it takes a bit more work (though I doubt it's the work of a full time accountant beyond the initial setup), it might be worth doing this properly to safeguard future of the fund? Otherwise, the whole thing could come crashing down when the IRS comes knocking - which it may very well do once Patreon starts reporting earnings directly. You can't raise this amount of money without some organisational headache. That's the reality of the world we live in.

Good Soldier Svejk posted:He's claiming it as income and probably just disbursing the money through whatever digital means as a gift. That gets him past the distribution tracking and uncle sam doesn't give a poo poo because he's getting his beak wet. Fair play. If he's been personally paying thousands of his own money in tax bills for the sake of this fund, he deserves some genuine credit for that.

DOPE FIEND KILLA G posted:Yeah, but the hardcore plinkey sycophants might not be representative of everyone donating. We don't know how many goons currently give to the fund because they want to help other posters, but do so under some duress as they feel uncomfortable with how the fund is structured. In the last two days, since this has all blown up, the patreon has already gone down $300.00, and I don't doubt that there are more goons currently giving who in the coming weeks will also decide to drop off from this cause in order to divert it to the more transparent fund. you’ve misunderstood the issue is that the person who controls the fund and receives all of the donations - before they are disbursed - has a history of gambling that doesn’t mean he is stealing, but the fund currently has zero accountability so nobody knows whether he is or not

jarofpiss posted:it's actually good to have a tight scope on what your project is trying to accomplish and i think this thread did a perfectly good job of that. Oversights, boards, and audits are all good things. Then again, not particularly surprising that a bunch of Stalinists would be against checks and balances.
