This is why it is always a good idea to do the Malibu first despite the cost. Phil's is a great way to get the Good Weapons if you haven't gotten enough hidden packages, and even with the packages the M60 is nearly unique - I think there's only one other place in the game to get it, and that's a pain.

I initially thought there was only that one other spot to find the M60 before finishing this mission. It's a fun place to gently caress around but not exactly a practical item to be acquired given the location if you aren't purchasing it

Cheating at a raffle? I sentence you to 1 year in jail! No! Two years! Three! Four! Five years! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!
Somebody call for an ant?

I love the way it is incredibly obvious what is going to happen to Phil and Tommy just let's him walk over to the table anyways because he doesn't give a crap.

Let's finish things with a nice double update!

Episode 13: I Ran

We're close to the end here, but before we finish up the plot we've got a couple more side missions to deal with. Well, these aren't exactly *all* of them, but they're the ones I bothered to do.

Episode 14 (FINAL): The World Is Yours

Vice City concludes in the only possible way it was ever going to - with a massive, Scarface-inspired firefight at the Vercetti Estate. This means we're also done with the GTA Double Pack LP, so thank you for watching and see you later!

That final mission was really tough in my playthrough. The parts in the mansion aren't so bad, but every time I went on the roof I just flew back dead because everybody opened up on sight.

After five attempts I remembered I had an armed helicopter parked behind the mansion, so as soon as the traitor exited I ran downstairs, out the front door, topped off my armor, and then strafed the roof with the Sea Sparrow repeatedly. That made things much easier, although I had to land to kill the last guy up there.

As a PC player, the shooting missions are definitely easier. They have a more traditional third-person control scheme similar to Max Payne, so even if you don't have lock-on you can easily peek around corners and get on target really quickly. The only downside is that all the guns you have to stop to shoot are still the same, so you might actually get more benefit out of using lesser weapons like the Ingram that let you run and gun.

You're already dead
There is a way to cheat the last mission, by moving to a spot at the top of the stairs in front of your office. There is a spot on the carpet that basically prevents Sonny's men from forever spawning from the cars outside, which you didn't bother to destroy, so they kept flooding your position.
I am not sure you noticed, given how the video plays, but when you chased Lance, the game suddenly slows you down when you went after him to the roof, so you won't kill him right there. It is the first instance of the franchise scripting a mission that slows the player down for a more exciting chase sequence. Later games will increasingly feature missions that are heavily scripted into preventing the player from simply cutting a mission short due to being clever.

When you have your own gang, you can recruit people by locking on to them and pressing up(?). I think it started with this game in its crude way, though it is still years before sandbox games made effective use of it.

There is a great series of comparison videos of the various mainline GTA games that examine how the franchise evolved over the decades.

I'm 99% sure that doesn't become a thing until San Andreas.

This is all true, of course, but I was referring specifically to that one mission where you really can't see where any of the guys are until they've already filled you full of lead.

Thanks for playing through both GTA3 and Vice City! It was a lot of fun to see the games in action again, especially with such a tightly edited LP.

Great LP!

I noticed this at the beginning of Vice City but waited until now to ask, was Sonny the one who set Tommy up in the very first drug deal of the game?

I noticed he seemed to have quite a bit of drugs on his table when Tommy called him after the deal.

Diaz was the one behind the attack on the drug deal. The incident that led to Tommy being known as "The Harwood Butcher" was Sonny sending him on a hit, which was actually an ambush intended to kill him before he gained any potential power over Sonny. Tommy was enough of a badass to survive, but was charged with the murders of all the hitmen.

Thanks for the LP! It was great to revisit them both and I'm looking forward to the next entry!

Yes, thanks for the great LP. I would enjoy seeing you do Scarface someday. Screenshot might be best, the story and dialogue in that game are great but the gameplay isn’t.

Thanks for the LP, Vice City is still my favourite of the PS2 era GTAs and I'm glad to see how well it holds up even with all the now decade+ of jank attached.

I loved this LP, thank you!

But did you ever show off what you can do with a taxi after you've done enough taxi missions?

Nope, because I didn't feel like doing 50 fares (or was it 100 in this, I forget). No worries, though, because San Andreas still has the same reward plus a cool extra one for the taxi missions and I'll show it off in that LP once we get there.
