A good portion of this country is really that dumb. They don’t and will never understand politics and only understand the world around them in their literal bubble - and surprise, surprise, they’re surrounded by even more idiots. Present them with anything even resembling a complex situation with nuance and they have a “my brain hurts!” moment, tune it out and move on with their mundane lives.
