I'm not going to suggest that the recent London stabbing incident wasn't terror related but https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting revels that more people were 'terrorised' in the US since 25 November. Domestic violence https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-09-05/an-australia-free-from-all-forms-of-violence-and-abuse-against/11470584 similar levels of terror. We seem very quick to legislate and bloviate regarding 'terror' incidents but gun and other violence?

Battered husband syndrome or domestic terrorism? If I put a pipe bomb in my ex wifes car and it detonates in peak traffic, is that terrorism or domestic violence? If I machete 6 people to death in a suburban basement b, but I knew them all personally but hated them for some religious reason, is that a terrorist hate crime or is that a murder-suicide thing?

Terrorism. It's always terrorism.

The only way to stop it is by allowing Dutts to strip search your daughters, read your email, and confiscate your cash.

sydneys water supply contaminated by coal mining waste
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-12-01/sydney-dams-being-contaminated-with-metallic-sludge/11751202

quote:

Western Sydney University scientist Ian Wright, who specialises in research into urban water quality, described the results as "shocking" and "unnatural".

He said the pollution was caused by metallic sediments — deep in the dams' catchments — dissolving into the water.

The sediments are a by-product of coal-mining activity, which over many decades has damaged Sydney's rock beds, swamps and streams.

The records show samples from Cataract and Cordeaux dams have exceeded acceptable limits more than 90 times in three years.

quote:

The impact of mining in water catchments was last year probed by an independent expert panel appointed by the office of the NSW chief scientist.

The WaterNSW spokesperson said that study "did raise concerns about the potential for metals to enter dams in the long term" but that more research was needed

The Berejiklian Government is reviewing the future of new mining projects in the catchment.

With some 370,000 properties already effectively “uninsurable” and thousands more pushed across the threshold every year, buyers should be factoring climate risk into their property purchasing decisions, Dr Mallon says.

“You have to do your research … because no-one’s going to come in and protect you. It’s not illegal to sell a high-risk home in a high-risk area.”

If Australia doesn’t maintain a healthy level of coverage, this could have serious repercussions not just for property owners and governments left to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of climate disaster, but, ultimately, for the viability of an insurance system.

“Insurers are in the business of selling stability. [They] do that by pooling financial risk and transferring that financial risk.”

If that system, which underpins our economic system, falls apart, “It’s not only a problem for insurers; it’s a problem for all of us,” Dr Phelan says.

A member of Victorian Parliament is campaigning for the currently under construction Mordialloc Freeway to be named after 80s and 90s alternative rock band TISM (an acronym for ‘This is Serious Mum’).

Liberal Democrat MP for South East Metropolitan Victoria, David Limbrick, floated the idea.

“In the city we’ve got these laneways called AC/DC Lane, they’re going to have Hutchence Lane and stuff, and I’m thinking ‘well why don’t we do it out in the South-East Metro area?,” he told 3AW’s Tom Elliott.
