This is a crazy time. You think you know the advice better. Clearly the Victorian government disagree with their own medical advice. The medical advice in every other state is that opening schools is fine. This is exactly why Andrews said he would consider opening schools in Term 2 - because he was called out on his ridiculous position that schools would stay closed until the end of term 2 no matter what. JBP posted:Just wait two weeks until we are more clear. I'm sorry your personal situation is the way it is, but this is a team effort and I don't think Victoria should be making changes until mid May. Schools should open immediately.

In two weeks the test drive will probably be done and you can have the kid go back one day a week like NSW. I'm very pleased with Victoria's cautious approach. It also sounds like you have a provider problem if what other posters say is correct about special needs.

You do realise that schools are rejecting students right now who can't learn from home, right? Like, you understand that's happening at multiple schools, despite what the Government's guidelines are?

It's straight up untrue to say all other schools in other states are opening. The situation in NSW in particular is a mess, and even if it wasn't, different states have different needs and advice. I'm gonna go ahead and assume that the Chief Health Officer of Victoria has a better understanding of the situation than forums user CS, and is a better source on approximately everything relating to coronavirus. E: not all schools in Victoria are shut down. Source: know a bunch of teachers.

We assess covid cases every day. If we had lots of cases the position would remain hardline. I think opening schools wholesale will be a fuckup and NSW saw an upswing in cases overnight. Once again sorry about your situation but even if I had a button labelled "open all schools" to help you, I would not.

Covid test trip report - they take your blood pressure, temp, heartbeat and ask the same questions the covid app does. However, they test you now anyway. You can show up at the the site and just get tested now (well, some other people did. I don't know what symptoms they had). They make you gag to cough twice which is very unpleasant. They they stick it up your nose twice which was unpleasant in a tickle time of way. I have to wait for 3 days for results and self-isolate in home till then. This is not pleasant for my 2 year old, he's very unhappy. And if I do have it, he'll probably will get it too. And that will be really...unpleasant.

If Australia can eliminate the virus and just switch to just a border lockdown + quarantine for new arrivals its going to be much better than just bubbling around with 20 or so cases a day and then having a huge spike in a month that shuts down all the schools again anyway. It looks like South Australia and Northern Territory have already eliminated it, Western Australia had only one case.

Strong agree. If the choices are between lockdown until June or yoyo between lifting and increasing restrictions starting next week, it's lockdown for me.

We're in such a uniquely strong position. Almost every other western nation is going to have to go through periods of lockdown and re-open over and over, we might have a real chance of beating it outright.
