The only question is to what degree the latter have turned against him due to 4 years of getting directly hosed over. In theory the electoral collage could allow someone to win with ~20% of the popular vote, but the states would all have to vote in ways wildly divergent from reality.

Bush's approval rating on the eve of reelection was just shy of 50 percent (and that was after tumbling quite a bit). Trump's never topped 47 percent and that was right after his inauguration. He's the only president in polling history to not spend even a day with at least half the country approving of him.

You don't have to plan your electoral strategy poorly to still do the win PV / lose EV thing In fact, as I've said a bunch of times, if Clinton had heavily campaigned in Michigan and Wisconsin, and turned both of those states...she would have still lost Pennsylvania, and therefore the election. Most analysis has the "PV loss/ EV win" thing for Trump as MORE LIKELY this time than last time.

The judge responded to the motion requiring the lawyer *and* his clients to appear before him in court to get his full response. Seemingly so the lawyer can't try to soften the inevitable bitchslapping when he would have to explain it to his clients later.
