when you talk about an also-ran whose long term prospects are doubtful but has an unrealistic opinion of themselves, well, two things come to mind

any time you can get ex oracle sales guys together with the place where the primary industry is keeping boomers on life support, you gotta make that connection

I once administered a OSS proto-VDI solution that baked a cygwin sshd service into the base windows image so the controller process could ssh in and do bootstrap customization.

It was not robust.

Looks like I can pick up a TP link Ax1800 and a compatible Onemesh extended for $80 all told. My gf has an annoyingly long apartment, so her room is like 80 feet away from her current wireless access point. Would this set-up be better or worse than a 2-pack Deco S4 setup?

if you aren’t rdmaing does a vswitch transit matter?

extremely not my area but I don’t understand a functional difference between a vswitch internal only transit vs a vswitch transit with an uplink

or does this scenario require some internal non-vswitch networking

you could wireshark the smb traffic between the client and server and see which ips it's actually going over. they have a decent smb decoder, I think. you could see if the 1g ip is referenced anywhere in the comms
