It was alright. It was a nice brawl but I like a good swordfight over fisticuffs.

jokes posted:Ghostbusters inspired The Witcher. just a working-class exterminator of ghouls and ghosts Yeah, after it became clear they hated the books and story, they should have just turned it into a Monster of the Week show with a season long arc mixed in. The episodes they did like that were pretty fun.

Geralt turns up, gets told about a local monster sitch, says 'hrmn', does research, drinks potion, 'hrmn', fights monster, plot twist, resolution, 'hrmn', gets paid, dandelion does something funny, roll credits There. Perfect story loop

1) Geralt comes to town/castle (alt 1: Ciri is with him, alt 2: Jaskier is with him, alt 3: Yennefer is involved) 2) Meets with victim/mayor/lord 3) Identifies special, cool monster 4) Monster beats the poo poo out of him 5) Geralt defeats the monster regardless (and is a good mentor/dad to Ciri, is a good friend/hero to or in front of Dandelion, is an impressive person to Yennefer) 6) returns to victim/mayor/lord, revealing an injustice and a dramatic conclusion 7) Geralt usually walks away villified, but in the right (and Ciri grows up a little, Jaskier has some fun, Yennefer loves him more) Throw in an episode or two about Niflgaard doing Stuff, Ciri being a dangerous wizard or whatever but Geralt helps her, and you got a season The format that the Witcher is clearly able to accomodate is, like, twilight zone level of "write whatever the gently caress you want, writers" freedom and they hosed it up. Do you know how fun it would be to make the twilight zone? Just random poo poo that maybe makes you think or whatever or lets you use up whatever bullshit props the studio had lying around. Or see what you can convince Shatner to do on camera. Once the format gets tiring they can just pull back on everything that isn't special to the monster. They could retell Shakespeare and nobody would bat an eye-- poo poo, the whole series is retelling of fairy tales jokes fucked around with this message at 01:11 on Apr 27, 2024 |

Effects and performances in that episode are really drat good but good grief did they miss the point of that story by ten million miles. It squashed the moral grey complexity of the situation into some trite nonsense. It deals with sexual assault so maybe that's why they changed it but having the monster be a victim of circumstance that is upfront about what he was forced to do and why he was turned into a monstrous looking thing is a whole lot more interesting than that stuff being a twist at the end of the episode. That was the start of my diminishing returns of the show.

Personally, as good as the Geralt Renfri fight was, I thought the Michelet Bros fight was even better. Less of a ballet and more pure Witcher brutality.
