Seriously, I agree with you that the way this game does Dark Side is kinda bleah. You'd think the real Dark Side would be more subtle and less cliched.

Solo was also badly written in many ways. Woody Harrelson was supposed to be Han’s mentor and in the movie he knows him for less than a week. Yeah...

Hopefully The Mandalorian’s success will bring back a chance for spinoffs that deserve one.

Fun fact- Wookiees are badass in part because their home planet is full of giant spiders, giant ram headed acid spitting slugs, beetles that explode when you cut them down, pterodactyls, man-eating flora, and poisonous fungi. Somehow they live in natural harmony with all this. I learned so from playing Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order.

Hope we can get a Wookie party member at some point in this game. Aroarawahhhhhh!

Something I can’t stop thinking about- I’ve never actually played this game- can you shoot the racist preacher a-hole, and does this give dark side points? What about encouraging him?

For a while, racism among the empire was a pretty big thing in the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Then we got more non-human antagonist characters such as Darth Maul, Asajj Ventress, and Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Vader's best depiction (IMO) as scariest dude in the galaxy was, what, a thirty second scene in Rogue One? Sometimes less is more!

I personally have a soft spot for the whole “ I find your lack of faith disturbing” scene in Episode 4. This pretty clearly established Vader as someone not to mess with.

Can you actually kill Carth if you go Dark Side or is this one of those annoying RPGs where your party members can never die no matter how hard you wish it? Every character in Final Fantasy games that's annoyed me has been like that, except Aeris, who I guess is the exception that proves the rule.

We can find and point the way to the Promised Land for people, but we can't see it ourselves. It's tradition!

Taris has a shocking number of ways to die instantly for an intro level

Also I don't find the outcast thing that unrealistic. We're talking generations of social conditioning. I'm reminded of the third class passengers on the Titanic waiting for someone to tell them what to do until they drowned.

This is a good point. You never hear about untouchables rising up in India or similar events. Even in America slave revolts never accomplished much. No, we had to have a whole Civil War to get that awful mess out of our society and we're still dealing with the damage even today.

Wow, you sure packed a lot into that update. And that race gimmick has to be one of the most counter intuitive and sneaky video game tricks I’ve seen. This game is pretty cool.

I don’t think I like our new Jedi party member though. She’s arrogant and she claims to like Carth, then snipes at him when they meet. Jedi with special trick or not, I think I’d stick with the kid and the Wookie as my buddies. If not for game mechanics that is. :(

For the record I like Jennifer Hale too. I have been her fan since the 90s when she taught me who Felicia Hardy was and why she’s Spider-Man’s best partner. Disliking Bastila has nothing to do with the voice.

Another fun update packed with exciting events and great dialogue. Especially liked the champion duel involving grenades.

I'm sure the droid party member will be very useful. Wonder if they get much interesting dialogue though. The droids have been among the most interesting characters in the movies but the games don't usually put that much effort into them.

Bastila's tale of losing her lightsaber made her more human. I had an especially good laugh at it thinking about what happened to the main character in Jedi Fallen Order (great game, just beat it) when he lost his. "Padawan, your lightsaber!"

I vote we have Carth in the party when we confront his mentor. There's sure to be some sort of special dialogue between them. Unless of course he follows the usual Star Wars track record of Admirals who work for Sith- gets killed off by Malak and never meets the party.

And does our droid get any special dialogue and conversations? I know they can't all be R2D2 or BD-1, but it seems like Star Wars would do more with a droid character than a cardboard cutout.

I’m just wondering if any of the three will be memorable characters. Mission and Big Z are cool, but they also seem kinda one note. The droid is a blank slate we can’t understand, Canderous is one note so far, and Carth is... Carth. Bastila has Jennifer Hale voice, pretty face, but is also spoiled arrogant. There’s not really a Firefly or Guardians of the Galaxy vibe amongst this crew.

So we’re a Jedi now. Cool.

I personally like being a Scoundrel better than a Jedi, if only because they’re generally the most fun characters and get overlooked too often. But whatever, this can be fun too.

Frankly, if the Jedi Order continues in this ignorant arrogance they will probably get nearly wiped out by some psycho war coming out of left field sooner or later. There’s reckless and then there’s just plain dumb.

Malak looks like the last Airbender without his headgear.

Are Carth and Bastila the only Romance Options? If so- :(

Dantooine is remote, too much so for an effective demonstration of the Death Star. That's all I knew about it before this game.

Our new party member has potential. I'd be surprised if the Jedi just let her join us, though. She did kill one of them. Then again, we didn't exactly have to give her an armed escort back to the Council. Hmmm....

The worst part of the party is we’re not sure who’s clearly in charge and why. Yeah, it’s the main character in charge obviously but would the Jedi really want the MC in charge? A former smuggler and low to mid rank soldier who just became a Padawan? Bastila can monitor us, yeah, but she isn’t even a full Knight either. And what’s our motivation? Save the galaxy from the Sith? Get the power of the Star Forge? Be a dickhead or do gooder for its own sake (something that I know from experience really doesn’t work for most people in real life)? It’s a trap a lot of games fall into- the main character must do the story because that’s all there is. But they forget there’s plenty of other stuff all around. Ugh!

Maybe Zaalbar will get more characterizing when we visit his home planet of Kashyyyk. Maybe, like Chewbacca, he has a family there he almost never sees thanks to the whole life debt thing.

Not surprised we get the chance to murder Sandpeople on Tatooine. They’re well known adversaries for the setting. Looking forward to the peaceful solution if there is one.

Then again, do Dark Jedi follow the ways of the Jedi either? We need a better term for generic Force user than Jedi since not all Force users are Jedi. Or Sith for that matter. There's also the Nightsisters, the Zeffo, and others in the Star Wars universe I can't think of right now who use the Force but are not Jedi or Sith.

I disagree about Proud Warrior Race Guy being stupid. I’ve met many of those people in real life, I’m descended from them myself (Scot, Mongol, Cherokee among others), so I know it’s not unique to fiction.

Then again, as TV Tropes points out, it’s hard to name a real life culture without some sort of warrior tradition because it’s in our nature to destroy ourselves (major drag, huh?). So on that basis, maybe the trope is dumb.

I’d rather be a PWRG than a Neutral, though. At least my enemies will know where I stand.

There are plenty of PWRG cultures where the PW part is all the majority of history remembers. Spartans, Zulus, Cossacks, and Mohawks are just a few examples that come to mind. I agree with Fooly Charged that Warriors were not the entirety of these cultures, and yeah, it’s wrong to act like it was. Even warrior societies like the Navy Seals and the samurai have tons of non-warriors on whom the warriors depend. Surely the same is true of the Mandalorians. This is getting off topic, so that’s all I have to say about that.

Right. I also remember another friend with a funny hat, one with lots of weapons, and one with high levels of religious faith- all of whom were great military commanders. I heard there was a way to code in a same-sex romance for Bastila. Probably takes a lot of effort, though.

Some interesting developments here on Kashyyk. Chundar's behavior does have some basis in the history of real life slavery. It doesn't make him any less despicable, though. Especially sucks that we have to cooperate with him and the Czerka Corporation too, hope we get to take these slavers down at some point. And bring back the Wookie father, so Zaalbar doesn't have to stay behind as new chieftain and no longer be a party member.

The Shadowlands are an area of Kashyyk I explored some of in Jedi Fallen Order recently. Got the feeling there was a lot more to it, though. We'll probably see some in this game.

Good to see Kevin Michael Richardson getting work in the Star Wars universe. I've enjoyed his voice acting in other places.

The Shadowlands does seem a bit bland in this game. I also think Jedi Fallen Order must feature a different part of it because the wildlife is different.

Before reading this post, I thought the Mandalorians fought with honor. Attacking from stealth and only if you don't have equipped weapons doesn't sound very honorable.

"Well, this may prove difficult." LOL

I'm now particularly interested in the Dark Side path on this planet and what happens if you kill Freyr and Chaundaar both. I'd guess it leaves the tribe in disarray and you have no problem with that.

I look forward to seeing Zalbaar and Freyr's reunion.

I agree that Jedi Guun Han was probably on a dark path.

Complaining about something on the Internet actually helped? It's a miracle! :D

I can understand the Mandalorians' banditry rationalization, but I still don't like it. When our buddy Canderous takes over them, I hope he puts a stop to it.

Fallen Order [spoiler warnings] features three areas of Kashyyk- an Imperial sap refinery, the Shadowlands, and the Origin Tree, as well as the forested swamps connecting them. The enemies are Imperial storm and scout troopers, Wyyyshocks (giant spiders), Slyygs (giant acid-spitting slugs with ram heads), jaw plants (giant venus flytraps), Flame Beetles (giant beetles that spit fire and explode when killed), Saava (killer vines with sharp tips that seek you out), and Mykal (same pterodactyl things we see in this game, the only wildlife the games have in common other than Wookies when it comes to Kashyyk). You visit the planet searching for Wookie Chief Tarrful and meet some other Wookies also. On your first visit, you have to help the Rebels free some captive Wookies at the sap refinery. On a later visit, you meet Tarrful in the Shadowlands and he directs you to seek an artifact at the top of the Origin Tre, which you then have to climb. Naturally this leads into an encounter with the sacred Shyoo Bird (an ally) and a boss fight with an Imperial Inquisitor. I definitely recommend checking the game out- it's awesome in many ways.

I did read the Thrawn trilogy back when it came out. Yes, there was a lot of clone stuff in there. The enemy used clone soldiers to supplement low numbers of troops, and a main antagonist was a clone of a Jedi master who had gone insane. I don’t know if he was originally supposed to be a clone of Kenobi. He did make a clone of Luke also, but that was cause he was insane (and so Luke’s love interest who had been hypnotized to kill him by Palpatine could fulfill Palpatine’s command without actually killing Luke). I gotta say I liked this trilogy better than the sequel trilogy we got, as convoluted as it was. Been a long time since I read it, but I still highly recommend it.

I’m betting Carth’s son got zapped by Darthensmirtz’s Sith-inator! Yes, I’ve been watching Phineas & Ferb lately, why do you ask?

Slow is a Dark Side power? It’s also the most basic Force Power in Fallen Order. Dang...

The Rule of Two is always more of a guideline than a Rule. You can always have a secret apprentice to betray your master with, or your official apprentice. And if Sith need Force using mooks for some reason those are exempt.

My personal fanfic- Dak is actually the same Dak from Empire Strikes Back, the Rebel trooper who felt like he could take on the whole Empire himself. He survived the Battle of Hoth, then met up with a strange man traveling in a tall blue cylinder with a companion who pranked Dak by sending him back in time. Dak is still searching for this ‘Doctor’ person, hoping to get back home.
