Long time no see.
I only have two:

Hi Score Girl Season 2 - Both the OVA in March and the second season itself are very well done, comfortable and heartwarming, continuing on from the excellent first season. I can't recall any other show that had me feeling the same sense of earnest joy and relief this show regularly provides in the interactions between Ono and Yaguchi. Also, Etsuko Yakushimaru did a phenomenal job with the EDs.

Sarazanmai - Ikuhara did it again, the absolute madman. Symbolism, surreal sequences, emotionaly engaging characters, all that good stuff. Another excellent ED. I liked the otter cop song.

That is all.

Yes. Though I also felt this year had a smaller assortment of shows to get excited about compared to the last few.

Happy to see Beastars that high on the weighted list for being a late in the year series that a lot of people probably haven't checked out at all yet.

its a silly magical girl yuri comedy with a surprisingly ambitious plot. its from the director of hinamatsuri so it has fantastic comedic timing

I can only speak for myself but 2019 was just kind of a weak year for what I had to talk about, I barely was able to construct a top 5 and the last couple of slots were *shrug*.

Also while Mob S2 was legit better than season 1 and easily proved to be Top 5 material for 2019, I feel like the whole thing belongs more in the "Best Anime of the decade" as a whole instead of just a seasonal/yearly thing.

That'd just be unfair though, Mob would take both the first and second places!

I personally vastly preferred Mob S1 because the evil psychic organization plotline is probably my least favorite part of the overall story.

Looking over what I picked I feel it was an extremely strong year for me since all my choices were by creators (mostly directors but a few writers too) with really distinct voices such that I couldn't imagine anyone else handling them, people whose work I'm almost always excited to see.

(Given the timing I completely understand how it panned out that way but it's a strange feeling nonetheless to be the only person to vote for a new Yuasa anime)

i just did the same stuff i always do, ignore some of the stuff i watched that already is getting high praise in favor of voting for stuff that i just found some value/fun in watching that i didn't expect, usually due to or in spite of apparent flaws

which was basically just my middle three i guess. i totally blanked on posting in gorf's usual thread but my bigger anime experiences of the year were all toxx stuff that was old lol. i'm already feeling a similar indifference with jumping on the treadmill of seasonal anime so it might just be one of those periods.

Funny. I found the arc a lot more charming in the anime since it didn't drag out for a year as it did in the manga.

the anime? nah, it cut out most of it and was pretty low budget. the manga is still being translated, but it has a problem with how the puppet and circus arcs are kind of bad but the automaton arcs are strange, violent and interesting. right now the translation's on another puppet arc.
