My first GP appointment in 18 years was to find out I have a hernia.  I've been able to maintain a happy veneer of indestructibility for so long, drat it. There will probably be a long rear end wait for surgery, in the doctor's words "because of the... (long pause)... political situation".Christ I wish tory voters would just kill themselves. If they want to live in endless misery then that's their problem. I fail to see why it should be mine.

I guess we just have to hope that each candidate showing support for the BoD's insane demands is an excuse to troll them, like insisting that the independent board includes left wing Jewish figures and is forcibly applied to all UK political parties. The big problem with the last three HP books is that there is functionally no story to them. The first four have a strong core mystery (literally the title of each book), with a central villain that ties them together but doesn't get any real spotlight, and a lot of history regarding his parents' generation that gives everything a nice lived in feel. Then The Goblet of Fire wrapped up basically every outstanding question about Voldemort and his parents, so they didn't really come up again, except that every other book was now entirely about beating Voldemort, which didn't have any real substance left to dig into, and the central mystery of each book... wasn't, basically. We meet the Order of the Phoenix right at the start of the book, then they don't play any major role until the ending. The Half Blood Prince involves them occasionally thinking "wonder who this half blood prince is then" until the very end when Snape goes "oh yeah, it was me. Anyway, bye". So the books got several times longer, but removed two thirds of what made the books compelling, with every significant detail of the other third already answered. So they were completely pointless and boring as poo poo. Apart from Dumbledore dying, I'm pretty sure you could skip from the end of the fourth book to the end of the series and not have missed anything important.

I loving love going to new places, just seeing somewhere I've not been before is interesting and calming on an existential level to me, which makes being stuck in the same office in the same city living in the same house in the same commuter belt for several years kind of depressing. But the concept of integrating into a local community is still something I struggling with massively, so that's probably part of why I enjoy travelling around. The catte tax is rinsing me this year, god drat:  This cat lives next door but will do absolutely anything to get in our house. I love her to bits. The idea of a nineties kid who didn't have even a passing experience with videogames is deeply, deeply suspicious. My dad played Defender, my mum played Lemmings, my sister was pretty sick at Unreal Tournament. None of them give a poo poo about videogames now, and they didn't then. They just found those odd games that spoke to them, because you couldn't escape how much the industry blew up at that time. No computers in sight? I'm calling that one as a gammon repurposing one of their dumb gammon memes.
