Why not just cut out the pension fund part and make it illegal for anyone not socialist to propagandise? May as well get to the point rather than trying to police industry's communications separately.

A few ordinary people I know started talking about this and the consensus was that Keir "looks like more of a leader" and "is much stronger" where they think "Rebecca Long Bailey talks down to people" and "She's really crap in interviews." I've also spoken to some Tories who spitefully say they hope Rebecca Long Bailey gets in because they think she'd be crap. That's what it looks like outside of the Labour left bubble.

You say Labour's falling apart as though leaving it as a vacuum for other interests to creep in is fine. Labour isn't a trash fire. It's being petrol bombed. The attack will follow the left to its new home should it decide to leave.

I have an idea but it'd mean Emily Thornberry willingly ending her career. She should go loud against the BoD and be as virulently anti Israel as possible to then be dismissed by whoever wins as a result of their apparent compliance with the BoD terms.

Ordinarily I'd blame this kind of thing on the influence of publishers trying to make their stories more marketable, but JKR is notorious for the level of self determination she has demanded of her franchise. Every success and failing of the franchise is pretty much her. Given the insane amount of money it has made, it's not all failure.

Costs me about £100-£150 a year to go camping in the peak district if you include fuel and eating at local restaurants. If you ever see a blue motorbike with a bright orange tent bag precariously strapped over the back seat rolling down the switchbacks near Bakewell, that's probably me.

I do have a dark thought. All this research into science that solves fertility problems ultimately causes society to become dependent on its technology. If we are able to have children that would otherwise have not been born through these methods, then there is no evolutionary pressure weeding those issues out. Should even one of these solved problems be inheritable, it could lodge itself into perpetuity and ultimately require medical science to intervene on the fertility of that population to keep it sustained. There's nothing inherently morally wrong with that situation where fertility issues persist, and obviously the ideal solution is some kind of utopia in which we all have access to the care we need. It's also a situation we're seeing in practice with the populations of certain captive endangered species, most notably the panda bear. I do wonder, though: If the conservatives push to make healthcare less available to the poorest in society, could it eventually shoot them in the foot? Could the hostile environment they create ultimately result in the lower classes having a fertility they could weaponise? This and more stupid ideas you can put in your godawful science fiction novels. Azza Bamboo fucked around with this message at 00:35 on Jan 15, 2020 |

Debbie Does Dagon posted:I think there was a Star Trek TNG episode where a technologically advanced/fertility inert civilization were convinced by Picard to allow space-poors onto their planet for breeding purposes. I think I remember this one, because IIRC Picard was talking with one of the other officers at the end who asked something along the lines of "how do you know for sure they'll gently caress?" and Picard was like "They'll sort it out I'm sure" wisely understanding that people are generally horny.

I find myself disappointed with just how alike many cities are. Their high streets are all uniform, wearing the same stores you'd see in any other place in the country. Sometimes I get this even visiting other places in the world. The individual cultural relics are preserved in enclosures like the dying species they are. Even the adage that you need only to look up in a town to find its unique architecture is slowly becoming a lie as every flat becomes covered in the same cladding panels only varying in their colour and every town slowly gets torn down and replaced with the same stores. Then you get into the weird part of town where a bunch of booj have made quirky stores and cafes for the sake of being quirky, at an extortionate price, and often unfortunately in very short lived endeavours. Here you'll find that guy selling shirts he printed and some lady who strang together some knick knacks and called it jewellery. Perhaps someone bought the local pub and sells a hipster's early attempts at ale or cider. There'll inevitably be someone going for the environmental crowd, selling half decent tofu meals out of a tiny cafe where none of the furniture matches, so they can tell you how it was rescued and re painted. I can see that they want very much for the city to have something unique, but the fact these places don't last means either they can't compete or people just don't share their specific niche.
