I mean, Dustin has NEVER been reflective of reality, and especially so in 2020, but this still irks me.

I mean, Grendel has some slight parallels with wendigo stuff if you squint a little - they both violate rules of decorum about hospitality (Grendel walks into someone's house and eats their guests; wendigos greedily consume fellow humans to sate their personal hunger) and have some cannibalism going on.

There was a Grendel in a deleted Bad Machinery story that was posted earlier this year, but he was a rather different sort of character. :v:

I listened to like an hour of podcast on Grimm's law last night and now I can't help seeing the phonological relationship between "Grendel" and "Wendigo" that's freaky poo poo (KWh -> K -> G; KWh -> Wh -> W) but I'm probably doing it wrong since my knowledge of this discpline is listening to like an hour of podcast on Grimm's law last night.

To me the sort of halfway hinting at the poo poo that went down this year with no further acknowledgement that Luann does is the most irritating possible way to handle it. You gotta go all or nothing here. Either pretend that Luann takes place in a mostly happy world without COVID or riots or Trump, or have it take place here and put masks on people and enforce social distancing. This sort of hinting way they're doing it makes it look like there's a raging pandemic and our cast are a bunch of selfish rear end in a top hat anti-maskers who refuse to take precautions. Which they might be, actually.

I AM NOT BEING PAID TO CORRECT OTHER PEOPLE'S POSTS! DONKEY!!

In this installment of The Timid Soul, published exactly 92 years ago today on December 31, 1928, Caspar is an rear end in a top hat.

To the best of my knowledge, this is Oswald Milquetoast's only appearance, although several years later there's a strip in which Caspar has a nephew.

I've never seen "high-hat" used in this context, although the meaning is easily inferred.

And that's it for my part of 2019 and the decade it was lodged in. See you in hell next year!

At the time I wrote that, I had no idea that reality would rise to the "see you in hell" challenge as violently as it did, globally, locally and personally. It's a coincidence, not a curse, I keep saying to myself. :tinfoil:

However, it's been a pleasure to cut out comics and post them here, on the Internet's refrigerator. Here's to better days ahead in the New Year. God knows we could use a few...
