I bought a giant camping cast iron skillet that covers about half my stove. It rules
Immersion cooker? Rules
Air Fryer? Best tater tots you gonna get.
Instant Pot? It's the tits.

Pretty sure everyone knows about him now, but Binging With Babish, besides doing tv and movie inspired food, also has a really accessible basics guide.

I have a legit question that I can't sort out myself.
If we really wanted to send a signal, why didn't we just snatch him up? He wasn't travelling incognito or anything, and it's not like we don't have dudes who specialize is snatching dudes from cars right there. Like, if we really wanted to gently caress Iran, wouldn't capturing him be a better long term strategy? I mean, for the thought exercise, pretend there is one, and it wasn't drawn on a map with Sharpie.

You could have done that (maybe, kind of), but it'd have required a shitload of marines and transport to take them out. I.e. probably just as dumb and bad. You can't just helicopter a general out of a country, it isn't going to go well. The local military suddenly have a reason to fire all their yearly budget of rounds off in your direction.

e: You basically die at that point.
It wouldn't take a shitload of Marines. We literally have dudes who make their living snatching people from cars and getting the gently caress out of dodge.
I would imagine they could have had him on a bird and out of the country in 30 minutes from hit. It wouldn't need SSE- interdict, kill the guards, snatch the dudes- your at the airport- throw that gently caress on a 60, fly them to a waiting aircraft- boom. I'm sure it wouldn't be so simple and quick, but if you are going to risk a massive escalation, why not make it worth it in the long term?
Again. Maybe I'm just dumb- I just can't imagine this was a better strategic course of action than capturing him.

Bored As gently caress posted:

We have soldiers stationed at the airport, along side Iraqi army and others. Who's to say that JSOC staging a snatch and grab wouldn't immediately start a firefight because Iraqi army guys have no idea who is taking the Quds Commander. Because we sure as gently caress couldn't give the Iraqis any advance warning. It could turn into a bloodbath.

Also, what are the benefits of having him alive? There are none. Trying to use him as a bargaining chip would be tricky, and I wouldn't trust even a competent administration to do that. The legal clusterfuck that would ensue by having taken him prisoner would be worse than the one we're dealing with now. We didn't even want UBL alive for that reason (and because we wouldn't want him to have a chance to speak/preach during a trial). And I'd imagine that the shitshow of a trial (if there was one) would require a ton of classified info being released.

I disagree on the no benefit. I think it would cause more damage to Iran to have him alive. They were prepared for the eventuality of his demise- I'm sure they considered this at some point. I wasn't even thinking for a trial- just literally loving kidnap him. We are already breaking the law, it's not like you are breaking it any more or less. We don't give a gently caress about international law- if we did, we wouldn't have done this. I'm a dumb grunt, but it seems to me if you are going to fight, fight to win. If you are going to destabilize their government, loving destabilize it. The sheer chaos if we took him would achieve more than killing him would. Again, maybe I'm just not smart enough to get strategy like the adults do.

As for the risk, killing him didn't lessen the risk an insider attack. Again, maybe I just have bad optics on this, because it's broke my loving brain.

I'm aware, but it's not something that they haven't done a bunch before. I just think that if there was a long term "Defeat Iran" victory strategy, it would be worth the risk. I just don't get what we hoped to achieve from killing him more than escalation.
