I didn't think they'd keep adapting Zootopia after the manga went off on that weird anti-abortion tangent but who am I to question Disney's judgement

they also mix and match framerates within a single shot, while the characters are animated at 12fps they still have other elements (camera motion, lighting, hand-drawn smears) update at 24fps to help it flow

these are consecutive frames: https://imgsli.com/MTU4NjQ2 https://imgsli.com/MTU4NjUy

it's fun to single step through those scenes and see how it fits together

despite how they hype it up the corridor thing isn't even automating animation, it's automating sloppy rotoscoping

Democratizing the technology by training it on a database of stolen art.
gently caress Corridor Digital.

they straight up admit in the video that they fine-tuned the model on frames from Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, ripping that off specifically

these generative models have no real concept of art style or direction, so the only easy way to achieve a specific look is to yoink some existing media with that style and put it in the AI blender

AI art doesn't seem like it's something that you should be able to sell legally at this point because it's all plagiarism, but instead of plagiarizing one person you're plagiarizing a bunch of people at the same time and for some reason that makes it okay and not something you can be sued for.

very often it is mostly just plagiarizing one person, the mass-scraping of images from the internet doesn't give much context for what each image actually is besides the title and author, so the strongest signal you can give a text-to-image AI prompt is to namedrop a specific author and have it imitate their style specifically

you see this all the time in prompts, if someone wants a detailed fantasy illustration they won't just ask for a detailed fantasy illustration, they'll ask for "by greg rutkowski"

Also have to point out that art is iterative and every piece of art was inspired by an older piece of art. Rarely is something completely revolutionary that came out of nothing.

the crucial difference is that human artists can introduce new ideas when they iterate on old ones, while a generative AI can only regurgitate the same ideas ad infinitum

it's a cultural dead-end

it's only a matter of time before they remake zootopia in "live action" ala the lion king remake isn't it

it'll be hideous but also somehow make 10 billion dollars

it's called "zootropolis" in regions where "zootopia" was already trademarked, except in germany where "zootropolis" was also already trademarked, so it's called "zoomania" there

it wasn't a very original idea for a title

considering oda's insane work schedule i wouldn't be inclined to count on him finishing one piece before he falls over dead

he's already been hospitalised before from overworking himself

No way, you can run a ton of it locally on your own computer. If you're dealing with render farms already AI isn't at all a stretch.
Also means even if copyright issues shut all the public facing stuff down, I bet you this will all still be going on.

running SD locally is still artificial cheapness, you can only do that because a company spent millions of dollars training the huge base models then released them for free because they're just rolling in VC money and don't need to actually turn a profit yet

there's no putting that specific cat back in the bag but at some point the free models are going to dry up, and if you want the latest and greatest you'll have to rent access to a model on someone else's computer
