Mine just hit 15 years in December. What was even on Steam before Half Life 2? Counter Strike and nothing else?

If I remember correctly it was just HL1, its expansions, and the semi-official mods like CS, TFC and DOD. CS:S launched shortly before HL2 as well.

also you could play games like chess directly inside the chat client :rip:

Maybe you changed the adapters mode by accident? There's button combos you can press to change how the adapter presents itself to the system.

You generally want Xinput for PC stuff.

Steam natively supports the Switch Pro controller so if your PC has bluetooth you can just connect it directly, no adapter or special software required. I think USB also works.

It's possible that it's the HDD controller that's bad; remove the drive and plug it into a computer, or put it in a different enclosure.

That was my thought too, but if it's the same model as in this video then the USB interface is integrated onto the drive itself so there's no separating them :(

Yeah definitely don't use mouse acceleration in shooters, it screws with your muscle memory. You don't have to disable it globally across Windows, most games nowadays have a "raw input" setting that bypasses acceleration when enabled.

20 inches is pretty extreme, even at professional level most players don't use that much area: https://aiming.pro/what-sensitivity-do-pro-esports-gamers-use

CSGO players get close but you're generally not doing many 180 flicks in that game so it's not as bad as it sounds.

controller + play and charge kit + usb wifi dongle

the advantage is that it just works and you can reuse the dongle and the play and charge kit when it dies. the disadvantage is that after you buy all that it's like $100. You need the play and charge kit because it wont work with regular rechargeable batteries. you cannot use the usb charging cable to play, you must use wifi over the dongle.

(a) Rechargeable AAs work fine, at least quality ones do. I use eneloops in mine.
(b) The wireless adapter isn't required anymore since newer XB1 pads have Bluetooth
(c) XB1 pads always supported wired connections over USB

Looks like we might be getting TLOU2 on PC eventually, Naughty Dog is hiring graphics devs familiar with Nvidia GPUs and DX12/Vulkan APIs.

They might be boilerplate requirements but with more Sony stuff coming to PC now it's not outside the realm of possibility.

If I had to guess its probably expensive and time consuming in a way that leads to little perceived benefit. Its got to be exponentially more difficult as you increase the game's complexity both in graphics and functionality.

The way games implement indirect lighting creates a sliding scale between dynamic-but-ugly and static-but-pretty, and the trend has been towards the latter. The graphical quality we're accustomed to nowadays is predicated on the developers using a huge rendering cluster to pre-calculate most of the lighting, which doesn't work if you allow the players to knock down walls and buildings however they want, hence why the Battlefield games suddenly went from fine-grained destruction to scripted events that let them fade between two sets of baked lighting for before and after the trigger.

The push towards realtime raytracing has potential to finally allow higher quality in fully dynamic scenes, but that's still a few years away.

Not that you're wrong about capitalism, but Valve probably would have to get a ton of paperwork done in order to get the permissions from jillions of publishers in order to have a previously unscheduled big sale, and especially with Valve's workplace model, that's probably not trivial to organize.

Steam sale dates always leak once Valve starts talking to devs/publishers too (there's just too many to keep it under wraps at this point) and we haven't heard anything about an early sale.

It requires high level staff and will likely kill many of them, and takes a full realtime week to complete, and only awards 10 GMP, but completing it resets your demon points to zero.
