Ugh, I'm not happy about, really, it's not good, but I thought to myself "it's christmas, why not owe myself a gamble". I remembered how much fun I'd had with my friends playing Borderlands when we were younger, and I decided to see if Borderlands 3 had any redeeming qualities at all. "A more refined version of whatever I liked about the game back in the day" I thought to myself, "is all I ask for."

And with such low expectations I was honestly devastated to find that the loving game is actually fun.

Funnily enough, I'm having way more fun with GR:Breakpoint than I did the hour or so I played Borderlands. I put the stuff on high as I have a decent rig (RX 5770, ryzen 5 3600, 32GB ram) and it still feels middling in its execution and performance. The guns don't really grab me at all, though I obviously have not gotten very far.

Since I have a lot on my backlog, mainly a pair of looter-shooters that I find more fun (Div 2, Dest2ny), its on the back burner, but how long until it clicks?

First impression is that im a bit overwhelmed - The UI is some sort of byzantine maze of menus and submeneus , systems upon systems , maybe its my fault for clicking away all the tips in the beginning .
So im not sure what any of the options does, what all the big shiny squares that pop up when i press esc do , or what am I supposed to do.
I just follow the marker , kill dudes , occasionally wave to the random wild dogo or fox in the street , and enjoy the pretty graphic .
It is fun enough I guess .

Consider asking either in the division thread or reddit or doing any amount of reading of all the tooltips

That said, this game has a lot of content for 3 bucks so glad you're having fun. Consider joining a clan: goons have one on PC that's the most active of the other goon splinters; Agents on Hold.

So i'm drinking and making bad decisions. I sort of want a space game.

Now that it's been out a few months, and currently on sale, I'm thinking about Void Destroyer 2. It seems interesting but the looks/sounds don't seem too captivating. The main thing I like about space games, from Freelancer to Elite, is the loop of working mildly fun jobs until upgrading and doing kickass combat missions, but in an open world environment I can take my time in (vs the rogue-lite Everspace).

Contrarily, I can consider getting Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. I don't know much about it (I'd rather go in blind, tbh), but it's more expensive and, from what little comparisons I've seen, more 'shallow'.

My main drive is flight, combat, and a minimum of tedium if I can help it. So, is Void Destroyer 2 worth looking at?

I loved the idea but ultimately this short negative review from 4/8/2020 paints my stance exactly:

quote:

While the concept itself may be nice, the execution becomes stale very fast. Success in the campaign is almost exclusively based on RNG luck, be it for tiles, equipment drops or enemy equipment. Missions become repetitive very fast aswell.

Unfortunately, can't recommend.

Also, I stopped playing before there were DLCs. Doesn't seem like the time away fixed the core issues, though.

I'll consider SRPG's nominally related to the subject of XCOM-likes.

Because I spent hundreds of hours mindlessly Item Worlding non-optimally to level up stuff in Disgaea 1 & 2 on the PS2--because I'm the type of idiot that likes to do proc-gen poo poo to make numbers go up--I got Disgaea 5.

However, I'm not entirely sure I was able to get into the groove of it.

Does it ever get to the point where just going to Item World is sustainable (ie: you keep getting items, heals, Mr. Gency's Exits, Residents or whatever they're called, etc)? Or should I stick to D1/D2 for those kinds of games?

I've been thinking about KZ but as nice as it looks, for a short game I think i'll wait until I get into the specific mood for it.

I don't have Shadowrun or Transistor. Might try Transistor later, but not looking for turn-based stuff.

I have and beat Blood Dragon, great game. I have Brigador but I haven't tried it recently since the larger updates. I love the aesthetic and I stink at it, but that's just more of a mech game than what I'm looking for.

I have Prey. I get why its cyberpunk but the execution is more spacey survival horror to me. Which isn't bad--I'm working on beating it (eventually :effort: ), but that's not it.

Invisible Inc doesn't look to be my thing but that does remind me I do have Satellite Reign, which is both set in, and to an extent executes, kind of how I want. So thanks for that.
