While we're on the topic of video games:

I know iRacing is supposed to be all about realism and laser scanned tracks and poo poo, but I'm still looking forward to this

I was at the track, just past the start finish line, once it sunk in how bad the crash was the place went drat near silent. It's eerie being in a crowd of 100k people and only hearing light murmurs.

The first time I saw that in the live feed it didn't register that it was blood because of just how much there was. I legitimately thought it was a white and red fire suit.

Now that we know Newman is ok, can we talk about Blaney's drive on that last lap? It looked like the whole way through 3 and 4 when Hamlin was pushing he was out of shape, and even his dive to the bottom coming to the line looked like he got turned sideways and just rode it out.

More important news: Ken Schrader is driving in a school bus figure 8 race on his 65th birthday

Is there anyone more awesome than Schrader?

Is it just me or has this actually been a pretty good race? It's Vegas, so my expectations are set pretty low, but I've been enjoying it.

Those rumors were confirmed today (at least the Darlington and Charlotte races):

This article gets a little more in-depth with the safety/health precautions they're taking:

https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2020/0...s-with-a-twist/

That makes it sound like it can be done reasonably safe, but I still don't see how you can have pit stops or guys working on the car together and still maintain social distance

if nascar actually has any hope to survive they need to shed their redneck image. keeping shitters who care about their right to fly confederate flags is more detrimental to the long-term health of the sport than telling them to gently caress off.

I agree. I think it'll sting initially but I do believe it will bring in new fans too. My wife is black and although she loves racing, she says that seeing all the confederate flags has always made her feel a little unwelcome (although nobody has ever been outwardly hostile towards us). With this news she's even more excited to get to another race.

Southeast MA is loaded with people who proudly fly the confederate flag and think Obama was a secret Kenyan muslim. Maybe not as much as other parts of the country, but more than most people would expect from a state that regularly votes blue.
