"Homo" and "lesbo" are also the standard non-offensive terms in multiple languages, with no more unpleasant connotations than gay or lesbian in English, so if you want to dig for a charitable interpretation I don't think "maybe this stranger on the internet who translates pirated comic books into a different language as a hobby is a foreigner" isn't anywhere near as big a leap as what some of us have made to justify much more egregious translation decisions.
