this is like the closest thread I can post this in but i was in Japan last year and somehow ended up in a standing bar where a bunch of salary people were at (sup Stringent). and since I’m noticeably trans, the topic of my voice came up, and they were like wow your voice is deep for a lady and I’m like :I haha yeah that’s...that is a thing ain’t it

and it got a little awkward

but then we got to talking about Boston and poo poo so we got over it

I had a good time regardless but it does seem like Japan is a little behind on trans stuff.

What exactly do you mean? There weren't any issues when I was reading the new chapter just now (not saying that those issues don't exist, I'm just curious because it didn't happen to me yet).

By the way, another new chapter, with extremely important developments!

This seems like an interesting manga, though I’m not sure how I feel about “I wanted to wear pretty clothes so the universe made me a girl”. Seems very :biotruths:.

I get that, I was more or less afraid that it would be the typical bullshit schlock you'd find in other manga. Glad to hear the reality is a lot more sane.

this is a comic where a character explicitly says that sex, gender and sexuality are separate things and it's only narrow-mindedness that causes people to conflate them, so you don't have to terribly worry about that

Pity about the first like, 10 chapters though. I'm glad they toned that poo poo down.

Edit: Another thing I appreciate is how it makes España out to be genuinely lovely. It's quite stark how easily the soldiers go from fawning over Alma to instantly trying to murder the poo poo out of them as soon as Banderilla comes out. That's definitely Iberian catholicism.

I still like Eric the most, he's hilarious and cool and relatable.

a cartoon duck posted:

Eric explicitly identifies as a man. the translation also uses "he" for Rei, but from what i'm told apparently Japanese doesn't use gendered pronouns the way English does, so the translator has to make judgement calls there and you could argue that "they" would be more appropriate.

Fixed!

It would be nice to see some trans representation in manga that isn’t cutesy happy perfect funtime, or near-pornography. I don’t see myself in manga which is often the point, but...it’s hard to actually relate to any of it. That’s why I really liked the autobiographical works, rare as they are.

hi all

I'm in the process of trying to figure some stuff out and was wondering if anyone had a rec for a bi-focused show or manga, or I guess something with that at least as a focus. I'm not really at all certain how to say what I'm looking for, it's frustrating, I guess I'm just kind of hoping to find something that happens to mirror the stuff I'm grappling with.

If you’re okay with talking about it, what stuff are you grappling with?

:wtc: Why is this so...fetishy

Fair. I’m used to seeing the same things employed by people who specifically set out to make fetish art, so it’s hard for me to separate the two concepts. That and I’ve always been very reserved/self-conscious about my own gender stuff, so that leaked in as well. I’m bad with indulging in girliness.

yeah uhhh not to judge but if you associate happiness with performing the gender you want to perform with 'fetishness,' thats on you

That’s not the fetishy-to-me part, it’s the uhhh hm.

I don’t know what part of it I was thinking of.

I think it might be the terminology? The use of the word “girlification” sets off some alarm bells for me, but that seems to be the translator, not the original author.

Snooze Cruise posted:

honestly if it was actively fetishy tho i would prob be fine with it, i only really get bothered by that stuff when i find its being actively harmful. understand why others do tho.

It’s not actively harmful, it’s just indulgent in a way I’m not used to. Which isn’t the same as fetishy now that I think about it.

"Whether they want it or not" i.e. unconsenting is the crux of my unease. It's the "forced" part of, well, you know. The guild member requested it, so whatever, but that one hiring adventurer did not. That gave me some pause.

The concert thing is less clear. I assume all involved knew the effects.

The rest of it, whatever.

Also strange to me is the insistence on all girls being small cutesy etc (I might be wrong on this). That's not a bad thing but...there's many kinds of girls out there? Not all of us are like that. And every time I see a work like this it's always the same drat thing. Give us some variety and representation please.
