a bunch of wolt (gig food delivery) workers are striking in denmark this weekend because wolt is changing their bonus model. used to be a 200 usd bonus if you did 100 deliveries fri-sun, but now its 2.50 per delivery between 5-8 pm same days. wolt claims it will mean more money for the delivery people (yeah right lol) its basically the same setup as in the states, the workers are "partners" (independent contractors), and arent unionized atm, but have been organizing thru social media, though apparently wolt negotiating is with the 3F union last year, just-eat (also gig food delivery) signed an agreement with 3F, but it only covers about 10% of their workers. back then, wolt was all "this is a lame and bullshit agreement that doesn't do enough for the workers" finally, the EU is working on adjusting anti-trust law so it doesnt cover gig workers. as written, the law would class independent contractors forming a union as if they were a price-fixing cartel JAY ZERO SUM GAME posted:we just unanimously ratified the first contract for workers at the Guggenheim; the workers who run and take care of the building, build, install, and light exhibitions, and take care of the collection are unionized. average 10% raises, bonuses, union healthcare, no more favoritism in work schedules, on and on... and all in a pandemic and economic catastrophe hell yeah Carthag Tuek has issued a correction as of 16:11 on Feb 26, 2021 |

apropos to nothing posted:bessemer amazon union votes are all in, though it will likely be some weeks before the count is finished. seems like the vote could go either way, the campaign itself is much stronger than some of the other high profile union campaigns in the south over the last few years like the volkswaggen plant in tennessee which was heavily top down, but there are still some weaknesses. regardless of the count it will just be the beginning. if it wins the union will have a tough fight ahead in their first contract fight, and if it loses theres 100% an NLRB lawsuit there cause amazon has very brazenly violated labor law, would just be a question of how determined the workers are to keep fighting in the event of a loss which would be demoralizing and possibly destabilizing. fingers crossed, comrade

I will try to write up what happened with the Danish Nurses Strike Since the late 1960s, Denmark has a weird balance where there's no legally defined minimum wage, but workers and assholes make it work. It usually works, except when you're employed by the state in a traditionally female job. Basically in the 1960s, a bunch of dudes ranked jobs on a scale of how likely it was that there was a second income .

the nurses union has been calling to get aligned up to teachers for years now, but theres never any money (except for paying mandated overtime which is a different account i guess?)

so: - danish nurses just had a 10 week strike - they were offered a 5% raise over 3 years + "a comission to look into wage inequality" - they voted no, 66% against - the nominally "social democrat" party sadly flinched to the right and is now turning the garbage offer into law - we are already 5000 nurses short, this is literally going to destroy the danish health care system Carthag Tuek has issued a correction as of 03:04 on Aug 28, 2021 |

unionization kicks rear end in kinda related news, copenhagen municipality just fired Intervare / nemlig.com today, which they had used for grocery deliveries to old/handicapped citizens for a couple years last year it came out in papers that intervare were using the classic "independent contractor" model (so basically uber etc). so the muni held back payments while looking into it & have been telling intervare to fix poo poo, but they didnt so now the muni cancelled the contract before its end date. also they reserved the back-held contract pay (something like 500k usd?) to instead pay directly to drivers they were intervares biggest customer, so its gonna sting. intervare says they will sue for breach of contract but i dont think they will get far. first, because all public contracts have a "fair work" clause so they will probably have to make a case that they are not underpaying, and second because the danish tax authorities have already classified wolt (gig food delivery) "contractors" as actual employees for tax purposes, so theres a precedent for the workers there already

I guess that's why I saw a thing recently about Apple Store employees getting a dollar raise and more sick daysquote:In addition to raises, Apple this week also told employees that it is introducing improved benefits. Apple now offers 12 paid sick days, up from six, and those days can be used for mental health leave, illnesses, or taking family members to the doctor. lmao so that's why they dont have apple stores in denmark. im fairly sure apple store employees would qualify as funktionærer & get full pay during sick leave, though they are allowed to let you go if youre sick for 120 days (+ 1 month notice)

In Training posted:also of note the count was finished in the bessemer election, 875 YES - 993 NO, with 416 ballots challenged, meaning the challenged ballots will now be counted since they would determine the outcome of the election. im not sure in this instance how theyll swing but my gut (and limited experience) is that workers challenged by management for inclusion in the voter rolls tend Yes, since theyre being targeted/excluded by mgmt for a reason. itll be a few weeks now as the nlrb litigates the ballots but this could be two unionized workplaces for amazon in a month, with another election with ALU coming up in April. this year could get insane with organizational activity. whats a "challenged ballot" in this context, like hanging chad fuckery?

you op absolutely know all this but i will write here what helped me anyway: - ask softball questions, like "why am i being fired?" - we dont need you "so i can leave?" - no you should work the day out || if you just ask, they will self-incriminate - immediately write down what happened as soon as you can (bathroom or whatever), preferably quote for quote. put a date on it. - call your union, they will have your back Carthag Tuek has issued a correction as of 00:48 on Apr 23, 2022 |
