$75 for a daily, $175 for the weekend pass for PAXAUS this year.

Also I honestly canot fathom what you'd get out of a weekend pass at Dreamhack, I saw all there was to offer in about an hour. And it really did feel like it all only existed as a big advertisement for Kick. Like literally their Crestor panel was just about how good Kick is and badmouthing other platforms as the devil.

The only real draw event I could see for anyone was the Hololive concert, which isn't my thing but I get the appeal, and even then that's still Friday and Sunday with not a lot to see event-wise.

Like, the Speedrunning stage was pretty embarrassing compared to PAX. Its all multi-hour blocks for less than ten games in a day, and who wants to sit down for over an hour watching someone main-quest, no-glitch, Skyrim at a convention? PAX's, by comparison, lines up a whole lot of games to be quickly knocked out in interesting ways to keep things rotating and the momentum high.

Like I said, coming here for the niece and nephew because they asked me to. I wouldn't come here by choice, I haven't even attended PAX in 9 years

I've enjoyed it, and plenty of big studios still show their latest titles so I don't know where you've heard that. Besides, the best games to demo are the indie ones anyway.

I've chopped through plenty of tree roots with the normal side of the mattock. When I was growing up dad had an adze that was a delight to use but it's handle failed years ago and getting a new handle is not an easy thing at all

I dropped.my loving car key down the gap between the lift and the shaft and I'm loving annoyed even though I have a spare because the spare has a flat battery but it did give me some quality time with the old Irish bastard that is apparently both the building handyman and also the secretary of the body corporate and he's quite lovely and also seems like everyone owes him a favour so I am keen to get in his good books.

He spent the better part of an hour concocting elaborate ways to fish it out but because they didn't have a keyring on it out options were limited and after the third crack at it which involved cutting a milk bottle up and attaching it to a pool cleaner telescoping handle to make something like an avocado picker I gave up. He doesn't drink but I got his wife a nice Shiraz I like to say thank you and told him to call me if he needed a young blokes help with anything. Apart from that the move is ok but I have a lot more to do but I'm exhausted so I got high and drank a 13 percent beer and now I'm thinking about wandering around and seeing what bars let out at midnight. It's inner city but super close to work so I could theoretically walk to the valley in half an hour but Im not too far from Newstead and don't know that area well so I wanna check there a bit. Might get a decent helmet and ride my wife's bike to work since we are selling the second car. The building is nice and the neighbourhood owns. Only complaint is the only supermarket I can see within a reasonable walking distance is a super bougy marketplace but it might actually have a butcher

I also realised that the local pub is a Woolies shithole and a teacher that worked with me for a couple of months during school holidays worked at their bws and told me he got held up with a knife twice in two months which tbh makes the cold room pissers seem quaint by comparison

Glad the move is done, sucks about the keys. I was gonna say fishing line and a magnet but A. Most people don't have that poo poo around easily (though the old due might) and B. It'd probably kill the renote/fob on the key.

Yeah the valley (from what I have been told) isn't exactly somewhere to wander around blazed, but the again that was yonks ago and its probably all gentrified now.

The knife robbery reminds me of going to do a shift at a Servo in Redfern and the owner telling us new staffers to ALWAYS lock the door at night cause one guy went out to check the bowser levels and came back to a dude unconscious and bleeding all over the floor of the Servo. Of course that was before Redfern cost 2 grand a week for a shitbox flat with no windows.

Woke up this morning to Jim banging on my door with my car key lmao what a legend. Hes a weird prick but I like him a lot he's kind of the building mascot I think. Also I can't remember if I said this last night but it bears repeating, it loving owns to be living in an actual city and not a suburban extension of the city. I haven't lived this central since I lived above the chippy across from Bowen Hills station and I forgot how much I love the inner north. Heaps of cool little spots around, I went for a walk to see what Sunday morning is like. Only downside is the kickass bakery is closed Sunday/Monday but they're a family job so good on em for having a weekend

In Melbourne you need to use the crosstown buslines and tramlines to avoid yoyoing into the CBD and then back out to your destination

Living inner city rules, if you're in the Newstead area then the little bakery attached to the standard market company in the Gasworks is real great. Also you're near the best gelato in town, La Macelleria in Tenerife.

Used to live between Newstead Brewing and Green Beacon, much prefer living in Herston tho. It has a big international student cohort so there's lots of good cheap Asian restaurants and walking to the city or valley takes like 20 minutes.

It's often faster to take the train in and out of the CBD than use the buses. There's no "across" trams in Melbourne.

This is making me miss living in the city. My missus getting a job in the Yarra ranges and the covid working from home thing meant a move to the very edge of Melbourne. I've always lived more centrally and this is my first taste of real burbs life, next move will be closer to town (probably not financially possible as missus wants a backyard) or out bush (I hate cars and don't want to be a 2 car family).

*Edit* The buses in Melbourne are pretty hit and miss. Some routes are decent, some aren't.
