Oh man I remember the fire (and your early musings on this transmission). Just caught up on this whole thread myself. A not-so-small part of me is imagining a single cylinder lawnmower engine hooked up to the input shaft on a centrifugal clutch. Pull in somewhere that doesn't have charging, pop the hood, pull start it, walk away while it charges.
