VOID-DOME LOSER 2020

Thank you everyone for keeping the thread alive!

DGB: all of these are hits. I'm really enjoying the rhythm section on the Malombo Jazz Makers' track --- deep stuff. Also the ry-co jazz guitarist is sick. great sense of syncopation and variation on the standard patterns.

Anybody in the thread make music like this? I've been trying sporadically over the last two years or so while recording other styles of music and it definitely is hard music to record multitrack (plus my rhythm isn't great when it comes to 16th note feel).

I'm a drummer and occasionally add some little tony allen type lick or pattern to what I normally mess with, which is funk. but no concentrated effort to do it with any authenticity.

I have some afro-latin percussion too and don't really know what I'm doing on it except having fun. that's not nothing, I can sometimes sound good on them, but it's not a result of serious study, just listening all my life to black diaspora music.

like you say, this stuff is best developed in a band setting. but not impossible to do in a bedroom multitrack

I had a whale of a time going through this thread over the last few weeks. nice to see that someone beat me to posting my favourite African guitar band (D.O.7 Shirati Jazz) but here's my favourite song of theirs:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWOBYc0ayNE

whoever posted S.E. Rogie, thanks so much, I've been pretty obsessed with him since. one of my favourite tracks I've come across:

and here's something really fun I heard in a highlife mix the other day:
