Thanks to Youtube continuing on after listening to some of these tracks, I've found Kanda Bongo Man, who is Congolese but was recording this stuff in Paris. Man, so happy to see this thread resurrected. It set me off on a year long journey to look into African music beyond Paul Simon and Putamayo records at the coffee place. So much good poo poo to catch up on.
