It was a big deal in the USSR so it spread all over their assorted allies and colonial subjects. One of my Russian professors did a study abroad at Moscow State University in the 1970s and got taken to Lubyanka for questioning because jeans and rock and roll records were showing up and they thought the American exchange student might be involved. He fortunately was not involved so it ended up being a fun story instead of, well.
