The pRC constitution does identify the country as a socialist state, but iirc removed a lot of the class struggle stuff that was in the previous version it also states that its citizens have freedom of speech, press, assembly, and protest too so idk if its the most reliable narrator here

China is continuing to pick fights with India. Changing the names of places in Arunachal Pradesh to more "Chinese" sounding names in a completely normal action that will in no way provoke the rational and not at all petty Hindu nationalist Modi https://www.hindustantimes.com/indi...astern%20state.

Yeah, but Putin is just your bog standard insane warmonger. Modi is a nutjob fundie Hindu Nationalist that renamed India to Bharat and is currently fighting his own version of an internal "culture war" specifically around the Hindi language, and against anything he deems as "foreign". So this seems especially provocative.

I amazes me that what Modi's doing doesn't get more press, but I think most news outlets and people, aren't prepared to change their preconceptions about India from "great food, wonderful people" to "It's Moditown - let's get purging!"

I think other reasons that Modi gets away with what he gets away with are: 1)Nobody gives a gently caress about India in the "western" world 2)Modi hates muslims, so again, many people are prepared to turn a blind eye to his egotism, and fascism 3)See 1

Also it always amuses me to see Bengalaru being called "India's Silicon Valley" by the western press.

Only saw now that there was an earthquake. An update just now says that 9 have been killed and 50 are still missing which is bad of course but not that bad considering it's a pretty drat strong quake. Hope are goons are at least all ok. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/strong-72-magnitude-earthquake-hits-taipei-2024-04-03/ Pretty wild that Taiwan had multiple earthquakes since I visited like 5 years ago and yet I haven't experienced a single one in my life lol. Central europe is boring as gently caress in this aspect thankfully. https://i.imgur.com/AJbAkeH.mp4 https://i.imgur.com/ufyaEOW.mp4

I remember fuzzily waking up one night to feel the bunk swaying around and groggily telling my sister to knock it off, because I thought she was shaking it around as a prank or something before dropping off again. Woke up the next day to find out, oh hey, big ol' earthquake that was last night.

I went to college in the Bay Area and my freshman year there was an earthquake that shook the dorms. It didn't do any damage, but it was enough that everyone ducked into the hallway to ask if everyone else felt that.
