I want to like this Steyer guy. Not for president but for being Bernie's friend. Is there any reason not to like him other than he's a billionaire? Could he be an ally, or is he just sucking up to the obvious winner?

Major news networks will not survive the passing of the boomer generation. They have some claws left in gen x, but their influence will become noticeably diminished. I was really hoping pete and klob would stay in until after ST, just so Bernie could win CA without anyone else getting above 15%. There's enough time here for at least Biden to get that much now. Not ideal but hopefully it won't matter in the long run.

TyrantWD posted:Bernie was expected to carry CA by 15-20, and TX by 10+, while not losing as badly everywhere else, and end with a delegate lead close to 100, or more on a good night (Biden camp feared being down 125 delegates tonight). Biden ending tonight trailing by a small amount or being in the lead is a catastrophic result. He didn’t even campaign or advertise in most of these states. His ad spending was 115k total across all Super Tuesday states. Even Amy spent a few million before dropping out. This is my primary concern now. I want to know more about these voters who stay utterly silent, walling themselves off completely from the world, only emerging when it's time to vote. I want to know what they're thinking. I want to know if they're the kind of people who can change and how we can get them to change. There are more of them out there and we need to find them and talk to them and it might be too late.

Stereotype posted:Clearly what Bernie needed to do was unite the progressive and moderate power bases of the party while fending off attacks from the richest and most powerful corporate interests the world has ever seen as well as a literal billionaire throwing money everywhere with only a bunch of inspired young and working class people giving what little they can and frantically calling and texting everyone they know while plastering the internet with fan made art and video content. The mantra of the centrist idiot: Better to stay silent and think yourself a fool, than opening your mouth and remove all doubt. By that I mean major media corps were going to find ways to tear Bernie apart no matter how infallible his arguments were, while Biden only has to ride on his perceived reputation and keep his alzheimer's under wraps. Look forward to Biden cancelling all debates and interviews until the super delegates crown him king.

Cpt_Obvious posted:Hot take: Bernie should run as a republican next time. We're seeing Biden take the lead because the american people were spooked into voting for a perceived winner than an actual one, and they actually think Biden supports M4A. Bernie has been consistently pulling support from conservatives ready for socialism so it's not that far out of a suggestion, but really that just means he has a way better argument for beating Trump.

I think this is perhaps the clearest sign that centrists really, really suck. Thank the house for at least trying, but centrists have a means-tested hammer made of tax credits and every economic issue is a nail. I'm still dumbfounded that trump and the republicans are looking like not the bad guys right now.

We need a :bigwelp: emote of some sort. I already worked out my depression through the sudden turn-around after SC. I'm upset he suspended his campaign, but since he wants to stay on the ballot, I think he's not cutting himself off completely in the event something happens to Biden between now and the convention. I think he could've done that and still keep a campaign going, but whatever. I've already decided to write his name in regardless.

I thought I understood why Bernie endorsed Hillary. It was his first run, he was inexperienced, he had to keep appearances up. I was wrong. He's not the leader I thought he was. I guess decades of giving hope to the downtrodden doesn't do much for your backbone.

They at least had the temerity to follow the rules and wait until after it was certain Sanders couldn't get enough votes. This time, they didn't bother to wait. The entire premise that the primary is the time to vote with your conscience has been thrown out the window. It's only going to be worse as the far left gains more power.
