It's already received one large content update and the devs are still gathering feedback and suggestions from the community.Weapons are fiddly with unique handling properties, ammo types, overheating and a manual reload system. There is a lot of customization between the modules you pick up, weapon variants you find and the upgrades you can cover them with. There is permadeath but classes collect XP for kills which provide more passive power as you level up. You collect data throughout the run and bank it by completing a boss, this can be used to unlock more starting weapons and modifiers. Modular difficulty to tune gameplay to your liking. 8 classes, Riot Guard, Breacher, Sniper, Assassin, Raider, Heavy Gunner, Engineer or Demolisher, each with their own weapon specialisations, loadouts, benefits and perks. Laser Mines, Turrets, Mind-Control, Psy Fields, Orbital Lasers, Pets and weird potions, 140+ Items and you can have up to 9 at the same time!. Initially I put it off for having a kind of "flash game" look but it plays so well and actually looks much better than I thought. When you're in the defend the hack boss fight and then a huge tank cruises in and starts spraying missiles it's intense and stylish. It's most comparable to Enter The Gungeon but the gameplay mechanics are way better. You just can't get any out of control combos like those games, or at least I haven't encountered one yet.

I have yet to see anything past the first boss fights in general but pretty much hooked. So far, Assasin and Commando feels like my kinda jam but Engineer can be ridiculously powerful with some good equipment.

As long as the game gives me a reasonable gun i can get to the final part, but i keep dying on the last couple floors- some of the enemies are really brutal.

I still can't go past second boss levels but engineer feels like the easiest to do so. Rolling around with 3 bots spew out lasers, missiles and rapid-fire bullets while I grenade robits from cover. The satellite items like Icarus work really fine with engineer with alot of cooldown reducing talents. My second fav is Sniper but I feel like it's a bit less effective against bosses.

I don't think I understand the heat mechanic in this game. It builds up from continued shooting, does it hurt you after a while?

I wanted to give Heavy Gunner a go but it felt like really slow and immobile for a game where you pretty much end up dead the second you stop moving but I love the idea of spraying hot machine death so I'll give it a go.

The starting machine gun is really bad but his innate with any other LMG is insanely good, especially once you get it upgraded.

I'm currently trying out HG since your post and, yeah, if you can find a good LMG it is just insane. I have found a Bren Anti Air and even with its finicky shooting it was amazing.

If you overheat your shields go down, which frequently results in you getting hurt. The bar at the bottom of the screen that fills while you shoot is your heat meter.

I'm so glad that he covered this game, it's like dirt cheap on my local Steam (like, 5 pounds for the base game and 3 pounds for the DLC packs) but I already had much more play time than any game in a year. Gunplay, class customizaion, weapon and item randomization...just my kinda jam

raider class is fun as fu*k, just be careful about using double dash to try and get away only to land in a bigger swarm of baddies i killed myself one time with a plasma gun that instantly overheats if you try to reload since its whole gimmick is that heat refills the ammo for it

Breacher main here, ama about the best class that blows things up and shotguns the leftovers. Superior to Raider in every way, fight me nerds.  I found out about this game when a friend bought it for me randomly and drat I wish I had found it sooner. The gameplay is just so drat smooth and there's so many fun little mechanics in it that really make it shine. Cursed item/weapon chests? Check. Shrines to Artefacts with powerful effects that raise the terror level as a trade off? Check. A terror level stat that increases when you do too well that makes the game harder? Check. Explosions? Explosions! Check. Seriously so much fun. Has anyone else managed to find a ???? quality item yet? My first was an Unstable current and let me tell you a 3000 dmg bolt of lightning with a 99% extra chance is a hell of a drug. Didn't help me loop for poo poo but drat it was funny for the missile silo.

I have killed myself more than enemies due to the very short range of Breaching Charge. I'm Engineer main all the way, having 3 active misl drones, two turrets and orbital strikes is just too much fun. I can't make the Riot Guard or Assasin work but so Engi and HG are my homies.

Hell yeah I'm looking forward to this update! IO didn't even know they had a beta branch, it makes sense in retrospect. The trick with the Breaching Charge (especially coupled with the level 15 perk) is to throw it as you're backing up from a group of enemies you just dashed into to finish off any that survived. With level 15 this gives you a boost of speed to get back behind cover as well! Also using blind corners to throw it at enemies chasing you or to burst a group of stunned enemies (always use Stun Grenade as a starter item.) As for Riot Guard, it's really all about taking a few hits here and there to stack up Pain Killer, and remembering that as a base perk you can drop your starter pistol for another weapon unlike most other classes. This class just gets better and better with levels, and really opens up at 20 when 100 Pain Killer stacks gets you a big buff to your Core: Unyielding. But honestly every class benefits pretty heavily from higher levels, so your milage may vary with classes. As for Assassin... well.. sounds counter intuitive, but use a shotgun. Seriously. Build up some professional stacks with your pistol or a single shot weapon on mooks, and destroy big bosses/enemies with your shotgun that procs professional damage on every single pellet you fire on your third shot. It's hilarious!

I play with an AMD FX 6300 processor with 8 gb ram and have had zero performance issues or framerate drops on even the highest settings. I'm the furthest thing from a hardware nerd but I'm pretty sure an i5 is way more powerful than mine? So yes, I guess they did.

I picked this up 2 days ago and can't stop playing. Assassin is king. By the way, you can go into the weapons and items sections on the main menu and increase their power and drop chance. Just found out about that.

Yup! And on top of that, this menu is separated by class. So you can set up one page for your Assassin, swap to another class (play Breacher) and have an entirely separate power up/drop chance set up for them. It's awesome.

Same here, for some reason I melt the Jet Boss in seconds. I dunno who but someone mentioned shooting wing weapon pods first before like yoi which works like a charm. My most profilic boss deaths are caused by the APC due to rushing forward like an idiot and exposing myself to the rapid firing turrets. Honestly, my end game boss is my brain going "Well, the turrets are on cd but I can take this group with just my weapons". Also frequently died to those gliders with near invisible and super fast traveling taser stun.

What I love about Engineer is that you can spawn your missile drone on whereever your mouse cursor is. You can spawn a missile drone in the middle of a packed group and watch them kill each other by friendly fire.
