Breacher main here, ama about the best class that blows things up and shotguns the leftovers. Superior to Raider in every way, fight me nerds. :colbert:

I found out about this game when a friend bought it for me randomly and drat I wish I had found it sooner. The gameplay is just so drat smooth and there's so many fun little mechanics in it that really make it shine.

Cursed item/weapon chests? Check.
Shrines to pray sacrifice anything you can to the machine god Zir? Check.
Artefacts with powerful effects that raise the terror level as a trade off? Check.
A terror level stat that increases when you do too well that makes the game harder? Check.
Explosions? Explosions! Check.

Seriously so much fun.

Has anyone else managed to find a ???? quality item yet? My first was an Unstable current and let me tell you a 3000 dmg bolt of lightning with a 99% extra chance is a hell of a drug. Didn't help me loop for poo poo but drat it was funny for the missile silo.

Hell yeah I'm looking forward to this update! IO didn't even know they had a beta branch, it makes sense in retrospect. Seriously can't wait to be able to read weapon perks in game.

I have killed myself more than enemies due to the very short range of Breaching Charge. I'm Engineer main all the way, having 3 active misl drones, two turrets and orbital strikes is just too much fun.

I can't make the Riot Guard or Assasin work but so Engi and HG are my homies.

The trick with the Breaching Charge (especially coupled with the level 15 perk) is to throw it as you're backing up from a group of enemies you just dashed into to finish off any that survived. With level 15 this gives you a boost of speed to get back behind cover as well! Also using blind corners to throw it at enemies chasing you or to burst a group of stunned enemies (always use Stun Grenade as a starter item.)

As for Riot Guard, it's really all about taking a few hits here and there to stack up Pain Killer, and remembering that as a base perk you can drop your starter pistol for another weapon unlike most other classes. This class just gets better and better with levels, and really opens up at 20 when 100 Pain Killer stacks gets you a big buff to your Core: Unyielding. But honestly every class benefits pretty heavily from higher levels, so your milage may vary with classes.

As for Assassin... well.. sounds counter intuitive, but use a shotgun. Seriously. Build up some professional stacks with your pistol or a single shot weapon on mooks, and destroy big bosses/enemies with your shotgun that procs professional damage on every single pellet you fire on your third shot. It's hilarious!

I play with an AMD FX 6300 processor with 8 gb ram and have had zero performance issues or framerate drops on even the highest settings. I'm the furthest thing from a hardware nerd but I'm pretty sure an i5 is way more powerful than mine?

So yes, I guess they did.

Yup! And on top of that, this menu is separated by class. So you can set up one page for your Assassin, swap to another class (play Breacher) and have an entirely separate power up/drop chance set up for them. It's awesome.

If you want to know what any particular stat does, hit C while in a game and it'll pull up a character statisics panel where you can then mouse over to get a description of what that stat does! Terror Level is one of those stats!

Specifically though, TL boosts enemy spawn numbers, elite spawns, enemy fire rate, enemy special ability use frequency, and boss health.

If anyone wasn't aware when you drop items on the ground by right clicking, dragging them off your hatbar and then pick them back up again... they can change rarity tiers. Generally, this doesn't do anything other than modify the name or maybe ad 25% item power to it.

Look at this hot bullshit! 61 hours and many item drops and I've only ever gotten 2 ???? tier item drops. The first was an Unstable Current (which carried the poo poo out of me and I got to 99% extra chance with some item and Luck upgrades), and this is the second. What a waste of a dice roll.

Item rarity tiers go ???? > Divine > Ultra > Cursed > Superior > Damaged. For reference, ???? tier is only available for Items, and is a 0.1%(*luck) chance.

Protip for the Armored transport: walk inside it. The spawned mooks and every other enemy won't shoot at you till you either leave the safety of the transport or kill the transport. Bonus points for penetration weapons to kill poo poo while you're doing it.

This is probably the silliest divine item I've gotten to date: an Icarus with 108% extra chance

It would just cover the screen in lasers as soon as an enemy got in LOS and was close enough. Sadly I died to Last Defender because of poor positioning.

The road to beating hyper adren continues.

FML I just died in my best hyper adren Breacher run yet in Disco Room on the final boss. I'm actually super sad, I got a cursed laser smg out of a shop floor 3 and medic smg floor 2. I had ALL the health regen and shields. Final Defender was in the bag if I got to it since I kept my terror levels down. This particular Insanity challenge will continue to elude me.

two questions

is there any way to actually tell what an ammo type does outside of eyeballing it? Some are kind of obvious but then you have like lithium cell and heat cell and etc.

second, what is the magical trick to engineer's adventure beyond killing all items for better gunbots

and maybe upgrading items before nixing them to get a hyperpowerful item in the first three

default ammo types typically tell you if they do something special (more/less shield/headshot damage, amount of armor pen etc). Usually tho if it doesn't say anything special, it just does 100% damage to shield and health and is fully affected by armor.

As for Engi, recycle poo poo you don't want, keep a few good active items to spam and apparently passive items that proc also contribute to Drone Zeal stacks. So like the 4 sec cd missile passive items are really good on Engi. I don't have a lot of personal experience with the class but a friend plays it a lot and I've seen some of the chat in global about it, so grain of salt and all that.

I also reached what was apparently the final boss on my engie run and got one shot immediately the boss design in this loving suuuucks

I honestly like the final boss itself, it's the Disco Floor right before that peeves me off. Much like the jet boss though, you have to try and stay away from the front as the lasers both the final boss and jet boss shoot are a specific laser ammo type (that you can get for yourself!) that mega slows. So getting clipped once is usually a death sentence, unless you have the Ignores Slows artifact. Coincidence the first time I beat the final boss was with that artifact? I think not!

That aside, I actually like the boss design in this game as each is mostly unique and engaging in some way. There are also no real gotchas as even the first time you see it it's telegraphed enough you can react to it or so nonthreatening it's your own fault for dying to it.

I love everything about the update. New enemies (Doomba scary af), the varients all getting a neat floppy that tells you what it actually does, readable weapon perks and buffs, the armor rebalance. And a new legendary item for Engineers to drool over?

Also Hyper Adrenaline is no longer hair ripping-ly difficult solo at 2x mult vs previous 3x.

I did it. I actually did it.

I will never speak poorly of the Xbow again, it carried the hell out of me from the second level on. My secondary was an Alpha Boltcaster for when I needed to panic. The game taunted me with a Battlehymn in a shop in VR but it dropped as Overclocked and after a testfire I tossed that poo poo back on the ground. gently caress overheat lol.

Hyper Adren is overall way more managable of a gamemode now that the devs reduced it from 3x to 2x, especially solo. Yeah yeah, I know the devs intend HA to be a co-op game mode, I gotta be able to pause and take a break occasionally okay?

Look at this glorious thing. My run started with a weird loving noise that turned into me squealing in delight as I realized I got a Divine Riot Shield. I then found an Ultra Coilshotgun.

Interesting to note that Riotshield Bash damage is based on the weapon's damage! So +damage variants make shield bash real real good. With the prestige and level 25 perks my shield bash did 1080 a tick on unarmored targets.

It always baffles me when hearing others having trouble with unstable mass. I pray it spawns over arena master's because it is hands down the best place to use your Heart Core if you have one (or other stackig items/weapons) and because it's so drat easy.

If you aren't in for farming, immediately take out the medium blobs that spawn the small blobs, burn unstable to 50% and kill the three new medium blobs before turning back to kill unstable mass.

Unless you've been royally screwed on good weapons or arent one of these classes with free AOE (Breacher/Riot Guard/Raider/Demo) then I guess it can be a bit overwhelming? I never had trouble with it even when starting out, but I heavily prefer playing Breacher so I had it easy with all those free explosions.

Arena Masters are much worse imo, gently caress the sniper and flamethrower redguard

I think that's a kind of interesting take as Sniper (and Assassin) are the only two classes I've beaten the game on at 140% difficulty for the first time below class level 15. I think I beat it with Sniper at level 8 and Assassin at 11? Been a long while but I know I was really startled at how effective they felt. I think it was a little bit of luck for those wins but not too insane, for reference my favorite classes Breacher and Riot Guard I beat the game on 140% for the first time well past level 20 on them. I also struggle mightily with Raider and the Specialist classes which are all have strong playstyles that I just don't jive with.

I find for doing well with Sniper are making sure you find a good, high DPS rapid fire weapon or shotgun as a second weapon to pair with your sniper of choice. Having two sniper weapons is a bit of a trap as it limits your DPS vs targets you can't one or two shot for whatever reason. A big part of the late game for any class is making sure you've found at least one weapon you can use to just vaporize targets large and small and slammed as many upgrade kits into it as you could.

The sniper is bad though.
I'm not talking about whatever guns/ items you happen to find within the run. You can for example, run into this item on floor 1:

... and just spam it through every encounter in the game and win that way. Absolutely no part of being the sniper would contribute to your win.
I mean, you can WIN with every class, the problem is that the sniper's contribution, his item, his passive, his level up passives, are just terrible and he is way , waaay under what the other classes can acheive.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree? I think Sniper has actual benefits from leveling up but they aren't the most insane, at least it has it better than Raider.

And yeah, the point of red items is that if you find one it'll probably be able to carry you through the game regardless of the class you picked. Some items vary in usefulness from class to class but generally they can def carry you through early game.
