Yeah I have a bunch of them left from my time in New Leaf and I'd love to have them on hand for when I'd need them.

I wanna meet new villagers too of course, but sometimes I'm gonna want to see my boy Pierce around.

I have a friend who has a good collection of the amiibo cards. I'd never use them to invite old friends over. I want to see where life takes me and make new friends.

It might be a bit more balanced/okay if the ability to invite amiibo card animals is gated behind unlocking Harvey or something and that takes a while so you can invite old friends into a developed island, but you gotta play through from the start with the animals Fate introduces to you.

That sounds like a great late term development for your town, like well down the road!

Animal Crossing has had DLC before and I'd argue the way they distributed it was far worse than the current means of just buying the content.

Happy Home Designer had a number of special sets (that were later added into New Leaf) that you could only access through very specific time gated methods that were sometimes offered exclusively through real world physical means, whether it was using Spot Pass, Nintendo Zone, or going to an actual Japanese 7-11 just to name a few examples. New Leaf had villagers you could only get by purchasing an Amiibo card like the 6 Sanrio villagers or all of RV villagers they introduced with Welcome Amiibo (which is why I'm happy Hopkins, an RV Villager I paid cash for, is now part of New Horizons base game) or a regular Amiibo like Wolf Link. I think tying unique DLC exclusively to a time-limited or print-limited means is awful and having to pay $24 for a single used Sanrio villager card before S&H is much worse than any DLC scheme EA has done with The Sims.

Yes. AC Amiibo cards and figures will be supported. They showed inviting Bunnie to the village from her card, and trying to invite DJ KK, but he is not supported yet. In addition you can use the amiibo to stage elaborate photoshoots.

Need to get a Big Top and Ankha card (although Ankha is too expensive for me to buy probably). I have cards for the rest of my favorite villagers.

I watch some villager cards on eBay and when that direct ended Ankha's card jumped like fifteen bucks in price. It's nuts.

Yeah uh if you want to get any of those amiibo cards now's the time because all the fan favorites are getting price hikes. I have a mostly complete collection of villagers that I like/love/tolerate but some like Whitney and the Sanrio 6 are quickly escaping my tolerable price range. Lucky to have gotten my Sanrio boy HOPKINS before they started charging an arm and a leg.

Ghost Leviathan posted:

Eventually you got a roundabout way to get rid of villagers with the Amiibo update, where you can scan any villager-inviting amiibo or card (this includes some of the Splatoon ones) and get the option of inviting the villager to move into your town, where they'll replace one of your current villagers if you've reached max population. Dunno if there'll be an equivalent in New Horizons, but it wouldn't surprise me if they want to be able to sell more Amiibo card packs.

At the end of the Direct they showed Amiibo/Card support in the game. There might be a new print run of the Amiibo cards coming soon, as both Nintendo of Japan and UK are re-stocking the amiibo cards. I'm definitely down to try and re-roll the real life gacha to see if I can get some cool villagers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie4WZCLbtVs&t=1452s

So Nessus if there's a villager you really REALLY want to have around then you can buy an Amiibo/Amiibo Card of that villager and scan them into the game, go meet them at the Campgrounds, and try to invite them to move in. Some people aren't a fan of this method because it's pretty immersion breaking but if you just have to have say Kyle the Wolf or Bunnie the Rabbit in your town then you can guarantee it this way. The one big downside is that they come in trading card packs so you're dealing with the luck of the draw as certain villagers are exclusive to certain "series" of packs, or praying for the mercy of the marketplace as some villagers go for ludicrous prices on Amazon and eBay.

I remember getting that kind of dialogue every so often in New Leaf because I was a boy and I had an Elite Beat Agent outfit based on a dress. I could never find that outfit again... I sure hope it's easier to find design codes than hoping you find a tumblr this time around.

Now in the year 2020 you can just smite villagers you don't like with the amiibo cards I guess. Actually that's a good question does it still force a villager to leave if you scan a card and have them move like in New Leaf? Because in New Leaf the Genie or whomever that was more or less magically convinced the villager you hated to leave so your new friend could come in.

Is everyone gonna try to get their favourite villagers with resetting and Amiibo cards and all that, or just take what you get? I'm hoping to make some new friends, but I also really want Bob - it won't be the same without him.

The villager count is like 10 right? I have a gang of 5 or 6 favorites from New Leaf that I own cards for and I'll probably bring some of them in off the get go, but I'll just let some of the randos hang out and see where they go.

The instant Bowie Cat gets a card though one of those randos is getting voted off the island.
