The Lights are a weird team, which kind of reflects the city itself. Their home shirt is fashioned after the bright neon lights of the casinos with a smiling face emoji on the underside, their primary sponsor Zappos has llamas as a secondary team mascot, and they're the first (maybe only) professional team in the United States to be sponsored by a marijuana dispensary. Not to mention they've got a field-side DJ and an MC who's on the mic almost all the time to try and get the crowd pumped up. The team plays all league games at Cashman Field, a 35 year old former minor-league baseball stadium in the heart of downtown. The Lights now have full control over renovations and improvements, though so far the only thing that has been done was cutting down the old poles holding up the netting from behind home plate.

  • Beating Toronto FC 5-1 in a preseason friendly.

  • Tied for second most red cards in the season with 7. I'm honestly shocked, I thought the team at least broke into double digits.
  • New coach Eric Wynalda dragged the Lights to a record of 11 wins, 15 losses, and 8 draws, but still no playoffs and still a third round USOC loss.

2020:
The team has hired center back Ramon Martin Del Campo to help shore up the defenses, but they have talked more this offseason about a "contractual restructuring phase" and very little about who's actually playing, so worryingly it could be a third "inaugural year" of a new team. New home and away jerseys are expected to be revealed before the start of the new season. No preseason MLS games this year, due to the other league starting play in February; what games are being played are being done on the road and behind closed doors. The rumblings of trying to buy into the MLS pyramid scheme continue to grow, goddammit.

Las Vegas will be wearing a different jersey for each home game this season. Will be sold in limited numbers, and at $100 a pop, someone who's gotta catch em all will be out $1700.
