I know that there are certain things that I can think about that will help me go to sleep, but it is impossible to remember what the last one is, the one that finally works. I wish I could figure out what that magic word is.

It’s almost 5 AM but that’s fine, I don’t really need to wake up until 4. It’s going to be hard to sleep, though, because my restaurant had about two and a half cooks working at it, and the other full one who isn’t me just got fired. This sleep that I’m about to try to get will be the best sleep opportunity I’ll have this week, and I already know it’s ruined.

It's 4:33 and I notice that I'm on my second consecutive night of drinking beer and smoking weed on the sidewalk and listening to the police scanner. For the second night in a row, the cops sound really tired, and I notice they're almost excited when they say something like "cardiac, not virus related." I don't really like cops, but I'm tired too. The police scanner is interesting.
