Thread for defeating the right wing of the democratic party.

This may be out of date, but some C-SPAM goon was maintaining a list of dipshits to take out: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1l4OSW_lm_0cMR5JLVlvAlKlyaYq-35xLu_pbNCoAdG4/

Ocasio-Cortez Builds Progressive Campaign Arm to Challenge Democrats

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez plans to endorse a slate of progressive challengers to Democratic candidates and incumbents, working to create a liberal counterweight to the party’s official campaign arm.

WASHINGTON — Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez plans on Friday to endorse an all-female slate of progressive candidates through her new political action committee, using her clout in the insurgent left and the considerable campaign funds she has drawn to counter the Democratic establishment in key races around the country.

The endorsements of over a dozen congressional candidates — including one who is challenging Senate Democrats’ preferred candidate in Texas — amount to a powerful stamp of approval for a diverse group of newcomers. They also are a clear sign that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, a celebrity of the liberal left, intends to leverage her influence among activists to try to reshape the Democratic Party.

The move also underlines the struggle among Democrats that is defining the race for the presidency, which is pitting Senator Bernie Sanders, the self-described democratic socialist, against more moderate candidates who are presenting themselves as better able to appeal to a broad section of voters in taking on President Trump. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has traversed the country to campaign for Mr. Sanders, and her efforts to pull Congress to the left parallel his bid to deploy his progressive message to emerge as the Democratic nominee, an effort that has instilled fear in many centrist lawmakers who believe it could cost them their seats.

Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas?

knowing people that have worked for Cristina, she is apparently a terrible boss, busted a unionization effort, and fought against benefits for her staff. there isn’t really any great option in the Texas senate race as Sema Hernandez is basically grifting from her campaign donations and isn’t actually campaigning as well as saying some real dumb poo poo when trump was elected. basically anyone worth a drat avoided the race cause they all think cornyn is going body whoever is put out there.

people should send heidi Sloan money though cause she kicks rear end and has walked every picket in and around the district she’s running in and is apparently loved by everyone she’s worked with and is a true comrade

Forums Goon -

No president, not Bernie Sanders, not the greatest president you could possibly imagine can take on the billionaire class of this country alone. And that is because change never happens from the top down, it always occurs from the bottom up.

So today, I want to do something that most presidential campaigns would not do:

I want to ask you to make another donation today, but not just to me — to split it between twelve other progressive candidates and elected officials running for office at all levels of government:

Can you split a donation between our campaign for president and a number of progressive candidates we want to elect to create the change we need?

There are names you know on the list, people who need no introduction but deserve our support like Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

There are names on here who you may be less familiar with, like Jessica Cisneros who is running against a very conservative Democratic member of Congress in Texas. Her primary is two weeks away and any support you can give her would mean a lot.

There is a candidate who did not endorse our campaign, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley who does a wonderful job in the House and we should all be doing what we can to ensure her re-election.

There is a candidate for governor, Andru Volinsky, whose support helped deliver New Hampshire for us earlier this week.

And there are of course other favorites like our campaign co-chair, Ro Khanna, Rashida Tlaib, Pramila Jayapal, Ilhan Omar, Mark Pocan and Peter Welch, and also Georgette Gómez who is running for Congress in California and Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer running in California.

So what do you say? Can you not only help us win this primary, but to help elect 12 great progressives running for office from coast-to-coast?

Split a contribution to our campaign and twelve great progressives running for election and re-election all across this country. This is the ticket we need to elect to create the change we want to see.

If we are serious about creating a political revolution that creates a government that works for all of us and not just the 1 percent of this country, then these are the kinds of candidates at all levels of government that we must be supporting in addition to our campaign for president.

In solidarity,

Bernie Sanders

I downloaded the spreadsheet, opened it in excel, and sorted by Column C (state & seat), then cross-referenced it against the list I'd been keeping.

Crakkerjakk's been doing an amazing job keeping this up. Here are the handful of names I didn't see on his list:

Nabilah Islam

Go.nabilahforgeorgia.com

Dan Rolle
NV-01

Lauren Ashcroft
NY-12

Robin Wilt
NY-25

Liam O’Mara
CA-42

Your support of any of the people on the google doc means helping Bernie enact his agenda once he's elected. And the primaries for these folks are almost all gonna be at the same time you'll be voting for Bernie.

Not to step on Nichael's ~brand~ too much, but there's another great woman running for Senate in a winnable seat who could really use your help. My favorite coworker at my current job just became field director for Kimberly Graham, who's running in Iowa. She's running in a primary against a few other democrats, including Theresa Greenfield.

Kimberly:
  • for Medicare for All
  • for Green New Deal
  • for Bernie's Workplace Democracy Act
  • free college
  • TRAINS
  • no corporate PAC or lobbyist money

Theresa Greenfield:
  • DSCC endorsed
  • owns a real estate company
  • lmao she literally got her money from REAL ESTATE
  • anti-M4A
  • her issues page is for like... stuff??? She has no specifics on anything???
  • no wonder the DSCC endorsed her

Some background on the race: it's a primary to take down Joni Ernst, an absolutely loathed Republican senator. Remember that Bernie won the Iowa caucus (he WON), so we know for a fact that Kimberly's policies are more popular there than Theresa's... whatever the hell Theresa has going on. Iowa went hard for Obama, then swing close to 20 points to vote for Trump over Hillary. Generic neolib politicians CANNOT win in Iowa, but obviously the DSCC would rather endorse an absolute blank slate real estate-back Dem than win a seat if the seat goes to someone aligned with Bernie.

Anyone who tells you that leftist policies can't win in the midwest, or rural areas, or with farmers, or whatever, is absolutely full of poo poo. These policies are popular with farmers and we have proof.

Kimberly can currently only afford a staff of four (4) people, but they're committed to actually getting out and talking to voters, unlike Theresa Greenfield, who is just using big money to blanket the airwaves. They have to do this to make up ground, because Kimberly is ahead in favorability and name recognition over the neolibs:

"retaking" this horrible institution is a bad idea

I am not expert on your history, but the Democratic Party has never been a party allied to the worker's cause, not even remotely, but only adapted certain aspects of itself by necessity thanks to the shrewdness of Roosevelt in regards to knowing better capital's own weaknesses in regards to its continued maintenance, and that was enough to completely obliterate any remnant of the revolutionary legacy of Lincoln in the Republicans as the opposition

Electoral politics are one of the theatres of class warfare, of course, but it is not the most critical (far from it, in fact). Any institutional avenues necessarily play only by the rules of the most invested in their maintenance, which is not the case of the common worker. The Democrats must not be "retaken", they must be either transformed in places where the possibility allows to (where the electorate resonates with socialism) and/or vigorously opposed as any other republican through direct action

Frankly at this time I would say. Support democrats when they favor your policies. Support Republicans when they also do that. I think we need a workers party and to do that we need a dirty break. If it cannot just be a dirty break with one of the parties it must be both. And frankly there is a better radical legacy in the Republicans.

Democrats have always acted to suppress the working class, they just had to make a few tactical concessions during the depression. Once the cold war began they went straight back to chipping away at union and worker power

I would argue that it should not just work with the democrats. Are Republicans awful? Yes. But so are Democrats both will continue to have leadership that backs the destruction of Central American nations that cause the refugee problem. Both will support anti worker policies. We need to consider having a process by which we can have representation in both parties. As we need to destroy both and replace them with a workers party. A party that splits off from both not just one or the other.

Does the post-2016 DSA actually do anything besides organize endlessly and get into internet drama? It's good that there's a party to channel leftist passions without running hopeless no-ballot access presidential campaigns, but do they actually run a lot of local or state candidates? Or is their goal to low-key support the Justice Democrats + Sanders and put pressure on the Democrats, similar to the Working Families Party?
