 I gotta say, in a game with tons of weird design decisions, "party member that can't be altered in any way" is... uniquely terrible.

 I want to say that is, in fact, the case - I believe someone said earlier "hey the prince is now the Legend 1 isn't that weird?", or something along those lines.
