Timeline based on ones that have been made before.

It's not like flu where you have a lurking population of different H and N genes out there that shuffle around in antigenic shift between strains. So far its what we call antigenic drift which follows with regular viral intrinsic mutation as it gets copied.

Totally unknown right now that this would be enough to necessitate multiple vaccine types. This would be unlike other coronavirus if it did in fact do that.

There's no way the Democratic party survives a second loss to trump, yeah?

I was thinking about this a lot the last few days. I don't see what else the party becomes. There's no way a legitimate 3rd party will take off and actually get enough votes to challenge most elections in this country. I can't see a new party removing the entrenched 2-party mindset that people have bought into.

So, yeah the DNC will have a lot of problems but where are the disaffected going to go? The best bet is some kind of analogue to the tea party caucus and hopefully enough of those get in control that they can overthrow the leadership from within.

I'll nth the sentiment that Biden has a real chance of winning, but that his administration would fundamentally fail to address the systemic problems that plague our country and leave us all the more susceptible for a smarter Trump-like fascist to take power later on.

America is a go-kart racing toward a distant cliff. Trump taking the driver's seat has seen us hit the gas while swerving wildly to damage us on every obstacle along the way. Biden's victory will let up on the gas a little and make the ride a little smoother, but it'll keep us moving inexorably toward that cliff.

I used the cliff analogy yesterday. It went like

"In 2016 we fell off a cliff. In 2018 we grabbed onto a branch and in the >6 months it took Pelosi et al to turn a blue wave into impeachment proceedings we had already lost our grip and we're just hoping we hit the water and break both legs and slowly drown instead of hit the rocks and die quickly"

Basically, with Montana a solid red Trump state, Bullock is the best drat shot Democrats have at winning that Senate seat. Could easily be another Bredesen (Iowa) flameout though, especially in a presidential year.

That's really good news I knew he was governor but honestly didn't know about the term limits etc

The main problem is really bad things right now will end but Biden will give Mitch McConnell four more years to decide what actually is going to happen.

If the Trump administration thinks that the lack of testing (possible CDC fuckup, possible CDC not wanting to make Donnie mad) is going to make the coronavirus go away, they're basically causing more cases for when the testing does catch up.

One of my best friends is a nurse who is the local coordinator for their regional DOH. They have been massively pissed at CDC and a bunch of bullshit with testing hiccups and delays etc.

I hear this argument a lot. It's not wrong per se, but I think it's a hell of a lot better to compromise on something starting from the Left, rather than compromise on something starting from the Center.

Bernie's done a lot of bipartisan amendments etc in his tenure as Senator so I'm not sure he'd go all Carter on everything, but yeah that's a risk, IMO I don't think it's a big enough one that I lose any sleep over.

I think that at it this point we’re past the point of being able to contain COVID. The long incubation period, multiple methods of transmission, and interconnected nature of the world makes it all but impossible at this point. Smarter money would be on a good messaging campaign that says “for most people, COVID will be a cold, but please stay home if you’re feeling ill for whatever reason, and call a doctor if you’re experiencing these severe symptoms. If you belong to these high risk categories, then come to a hospital for testing.”

I feel like any other response is going to push up on being ineffective or prompting more panic. Of course, with this administration, the response is going to be horribly bungled so you may as well do your neighbors a favor and go to sleep wrapped in a tarp every night.

We've done 10x less testing than S. Korea has, in the past week we've done about 80x less than they have so far.

I thought maybe us spending most of the decade paying russians for rides into space would help end American exceptionalism, maybe this will.
