Strap in for fun. Two Syrian planes shot down by Turkey over Syria apparently.

Think this’ll change much? They were already invading Syrian soil with our backing.

The US steadfastly refuses to put itself under the jurisdiction of the ICC. Trump specifically said he would take punitive actions against any ICC members investigating Americans for war crimes.

At worst, Ghallager might have to avoid some travel. Even if he gets picked up, Trump would probably threaten sanctions to free the war criminal.

Good reminder that those ghouls aren't average Americans

The Surgeon General made a statement about how American containment measures are working but as far as I can tell we have done literally nothing to contain the virus besides refuse to let some people off a ship while it spreads uninhibited in the states.

Yes, my wife just got a kidney transplant and she works in healthcare. Not only do I worry about her getting it, I worry about myself getting it and spreading it to her. It doesn't help that my idiot chud coworkers are running around yelling that it's just a fake news flu and avoiding any precautions.

The flu is easily testable, has an actual treatment, has a vaccine, and hits in a way that keeps most people out of work for a while. I feel like I should be very concerned about Covid.

Yup. They had a patient come in whose wife tested positive after his visit, and then he started showing symptoms.

I am just spitballing but at a guess:
  • Isolation draws out for 2-ish weeks; hospitals briefly hammered, barely controlled chaos.
  • We catch up on testing. Number of added cases doesn't seem too severe once the proverbial dust settles.
  • Overconfidence: businesses start calling for WFH staff to come back in. People getting antsy about how much things have changed and think it's fine now.
  • Another spike in cases because businesses are run but exceedingly lovely people. Hospitals briefly get overwhelmed, except in states that stick to their guns.
  • Second round of shut-downs, for real this time.
  • Way of life continues to be somewhat unrecognizable in comparison to what we're used to.
  • Herd immunity.
  • Damage control.
There's probably some steps I missed in there, but I'm assuming that's what it'll look like in the coming months.

This is probably the most sensible take on the next 6-9 months I’ve seen yet.

With the Coronavirus stuff I’m wondering why D&D feels obligated to misery-jerk over everything. The positive news gets met with “it’s not enough, we’re hosed!” and stories about places shutting down like people were desperately demanding likewise get met with “if they shut down we’re hosed!”

That can’t possible be cathartic, it’s just a spiral.

Better treatments along the way to a vaccine. There are some existing medications that may help that wouldn’t need the same amount of testing. Ramping up the production of medical supplies will also help.

Also I imagine the vaccine will be opened up to various groups of people long before we completely determine that it doesn’t make you poo poo out your eyeballs.
