i got a text from my command prohibiting travel to WA and CA.

Anyone have any hot tips of where to go in Oegon?????

Crater Lake is amazing, if you're going in a part of the year where it isn't snowed in. The Bend area is beautiful, with quite a bit to do. Seaside/Cannon Beach is a good time.

In travel ban news, my parents (both in their 70's) pulled that millennial travel meme and flew to Crete last week cause flights were so drat cheap and 'hey the tourist spots are empty right now gently caress it #YOLO'. Guess their trip/hospital stay just got extended. :v:

of course, I'm worried but poo poo live your best life

My parents got an email from the airline that their booking of the return flight from Crete (April 1st) was canceled and fully refunded. Been 10 days since they got there, showing no symptoms or anything, and there seem to be no confirmed cases on the island. Maybe they found a pretty sweet place to ride it out.

Meanwhile at work we started a pool for:

1) When the Feds/USACE go to minimum essential operations (we're an army corps construction project)
2) When one of our companies blinks and tells engineers/other office dwellers to start WFH. Inspectors and all the craft workers can eat poo poo I guess.
3) Date first person on the project is confirmed to have it.
4) When someone makes an HR complaint about the pool.

Me: I'mma practice my baking during this quarantine.
Also me: Doesn't buy yeast.

My work: Declared critical infrastructure and I don't get to sit around home in sweats for the next 3 weeks anyway.

Right??

I am spending every morning slamming through the online work poo poo I have to do then lifting or running and then spending the rest of the day in the wood shop building stuff and learning how to use the lathe. It's pretty rad. Plus wife and I both get to sit down every night and have dinner together and just talk without being in a rush to get stuff done to finish up more work etc etc. It's been nice, you know, when I ignore everything outside.

Makes ya wonder if we'll see any lasting societal change once/if all this blows over.

We have a great chance, as a species, to recognize how cooperation and taking care of each other has numerous benefits and providing a social system that doesn't deify the pursuit of wealth over everything else can benefit us going forward.

Can we, please?

To be fair a lot of those people losing their minds are doing so over things like "How am I going to feed my children/pay the rent?"

Edit: Also some are doing it because they can't buy four years' of toilet paper, so it's kind of a mixed bag.

This is totally a fair point, but imo just points with even more emphasis to our need for a functional societal safety net, the above need for a reorienting away from the pure pursuit of wealth and conspicuous consumption, blah blah blah. I'd say the greater good but I probably already sound like a Utopian socialist loon.

Man I'm on an Army Corps project, which inspires no faith at all in me of their ability to put together some hospitals with any speed.

I know it's years ago in Hellfucker 2020 timeline but I'm still kinda stuck on the EPA thing. If even half of what my imagination has come up with ends up being true there will be kids decades from now being poisoned and dying to this loathsome mother fucker's actions.

Yeah I am quite concerned about this bullshit move.

Can we start with 'any and all chicken hawks who advocated for or had part in getting us into, continuing, or expanding forever wars while having never been exposed to any personal risk or danger from their own or similar agendas'?

This company should be named and shamed, have any tax breaks or subsidies at every level stripped and be denied a single cent of bailout funds.

Throw some execs in jail too, why not.
