i like it, one thing i would recommend is turning down the velocity of the piano so that it doesn't sound so harsh, and using more reverb/pedal to smooth it out a bit

always hold off on releasing something until you’re reasonably ready to call it done. once something is out there, you won’t have the same drive to continue iterating on it and will be ready to move on.

on the other hand, don’t obsess over it and try to make it perfect - that will mean it never gets released and that’s possibly the worst case scenario.

^ somehow the first post i saw since not checking the thread in months was directly related to my personal experience from today.

it is now my personal belief that songs are never really done. ever. heres why.

there was this one song i posted a couple years ago when i thought i knew everything there was to know.
today i went back in on said song. the mix was garbage, but it was too goofy to not finish. i approached it with the knowledge i have now, after two-ish years of experience between the old version and now, and holy poo poo.

i mean the difference between these two versions of the same song is just nuts:
When I Thought I Knew poo poo (Before): https://soundcloud.com/5plat/february-17th-feat-superfly-joe-cartoon
When I Knew I Didn't Know poo poo and Took Action to Know poo poo Instead (After): https://soundcloud.com/5plat/triple-pillow

final version :) I trimmed it down to the bone, same musical ideas but faster paced. filter envelopes are good. renoise rocks.

I love sessions like these. Super meditative. My go-to on the projector is usually Reboot at 0.5x speed with video filters.

Appropos of nothing, my favorite compressor settings are +6db in, -10db threshold, 0db output. It helps keep my tracks audible across all devices, and makes me feel like an Audio Engineer whenever I post about it :V

Newest experiments!

https://soundcloud.com/5plat/say-you-wont - Tried the Beyonce method of just having one vocal hook and just vamping it for an entire song. Surprisingly effective! This one also makes heavy use of the Total Scene Control pipeline for Reason I've been working on this past year.

https://soundcloud.com/5plat/it-had-to-be-2023-revisited - The drum kit on this one was made entirely from samples I got by dropping a 9mm casing I'd found at a Potbelly Sandwiches on surfaces made of different materials. Vocals are from another song I've been kicking around for a while and just endlessly remixing.

https://soundcloud.com/5plat/triple-pillow - The last version of this one was the exact same, except its mix was absolute garbage. I went back through with the new mixing/mastering knowledge I acquired this past year, and that new mix parlayed into a massive increase in play count.

https://soundcloud.com/5plat/ambience-zen-forest - Sometimes I just like making a sound that sounds chill as fuuuuuuuck. Like, chiller than you're thinking. No, keep going.

That's it for now but before I go, I wanna make sure to emphasize this dude's latest:

Here's that music I was tolken about. They both came together pretty quickly. I like the first one a lot, second one is ok but does its job for the game.
