Open TTD had for a long time required rescouces from other games in order to be played. However in recent years a free alternative has been made, making this game completely independant and thus completely free. https://www.openttd.org/ Based on the original Train Tycoon Deluxe by Microprose, Open TTD is an engrossing game about building a massive transportation empire. From trains to planes to boats and who knows what else, you'll be moving things to various stuff-places and then moving that stuff to other places and making tonnes of money for more thing-stuff-place moving. Its great fun watching the various towns and cities grow throughout the eras (and maybe watching everything turn into a existential nightmare of criss-crossing railroad-tracks).
